Dorset Council's Waste Services Team have shared the following information with us about changes to your collections over the Christmas period. Full collection calendars and more details can be found on their website (link in comments):

As well as your collection date changing over the Christmas period, the crews might pick up your waste at a different time of day than usual. Therefore, please put your containers out on the correct day by 6am to ensure collection.

There are no garden waste collections from Thursday 25th December until Thursday 8 January.

If you have extra recycling that won't fit in your bin, you can put it in a sturdy box (not a bag) - that can be lifted by one person - and put it by the side of your recycling bin. Please put paper, card and cartons in your bin to ensure it doesn't get wet. Keep glass separate.

You can also put out two extra sacks of black bin rubbish on your first scheduled rubbish collection after Christmas.

Dorset Local Plan Consultation

Dorset Council is currently consulting on its draft Local Plan (Options) this includes several new housing site proposals in and around Chickerell.

These are proposals, not decisions, but it’s important that everyone takes the opportunity to review and comment before 13 October 2025.

From my personal perspective, it’s vital that infrastructure must come first including GP capacity, school places, and roads as we have experienced significant growth in Chickerell in recent years.

The map below shows the proposed sites for Chickerell, identified by Dorset Council.

Each site has its own reference number, you can comment on individual plots through the online consultation.

1,172 homes proposed across 8 sites all bar one on greenfield land. That equates to a 40% increase in Chickerell’s population.

Everyone can view all proposals and comment on individual sites through the online consultation:

Comments on Facebook don’t count, so please use the link.

The UK government is testing the Emergency Alerts system at 3pm today, Sunday 7 September 2025. Compatible mobile phones and tablets will receive an alert, make a loud siren-like sound and vibrate. You will not need to take any action.

The Emergency Alerts system is used to warn if there’s a danger to life nearby, including extreme weather. Regular testing ensures the system is functioning correctly, should it need to be used in a life-threatening emergency. Echoing Cllr Alex Fuhrmann - Weymouth Town & Dorset Council concern, it would be a great shame if Wessex Golf Centre and Toptracer Driving Range and community facilities were taken away.

Dorset Council’s Local Plan and Travel Plan consultation is now open until 13 October 2025. It’s crucial that everyone comments, these are only proposals, and without community feedback our needs risk being overlooked.

I’ve emphasised that infrastructure must come first. Chickerell has seen significant growth without essential services such as a GP surgery so any further development must be backed by the infrastructure we need.

Please take a moment to read, reflect, and respond:
