🚧 Willowbed Field Update ✅

Chickerell Town Council is pleased to share that the renewal of the wooden ranch-style fencing at Willowbed Field has now been successfully completed.

The older failing section of fencing has been replaced as part of works linked to the nearby pedestrian crossing scheme. This project has been jointly funded by Chickerell Town Council and Dorset Council, helping to improve the safety and appearance of the site.

While planning these improvements, the Town Council also took the opportunity to install two new single pedestrian gates. These additions will help enhance safety for children and families enjoying the play park and surrounding area by providing more controlled access points.

A special thank you to Dorset Council , who were contracted to carry out the works and have delivered a high-quality finish.

We hope residents and visitors enjoy the upgraded facilities at Willowbed Field. 🌳👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

UPDATE: IMPROVEMENTS AT PAVILION FIELD
You may have seen Wessex Water’s recent update on the £1.7 million investment at the Pavilion Field site, which includes a new underground storage tank to provide additional capacity to the foul sewer network, due to the continued expansion of the village. The tank will also mitigate against flood risk and reduce storm-water overflow spills during periods of heavy rainfall.

Chickerell Town Council has worked closely with Wessex Water throughout this project and we’re pleased to share some additional updates specific to our community.

As part of the agreed betterment works, the site is already seeing significant improvements:
✅ Full reinstatement and enhancement of the car park area, providing a much-improved surface for users
✅ Reinstatement of the grassed open space, now re-seeded and benefiting from a far better surface finish than before the works
✅ Reinstatement of the field gate entrance and addition of a pedestrian gate
✅ Levelling of the footpath surrounding the Pavilion building, improving accessibility and usability

The grassed area remains fenced off while the new seed establishes and we kindly ask residents to respect these temporary measures to allow the area to recover fully.

We’re also pleased to confirm that positive discussions are ongoing between Wessex Water and the Town Council to finalise a wider betterment package. The aim is to ensure that, once complete, the open space is left in a condition that is not just restored, but enhanced, for everyone in our community to enjoy.

Thank you to residents for your continued patience during the works, and we look forward to sharing further updates as the project concludes. In the meantime, the Pavilion remains available to hire with car parking facilities – please see our website or contact 01305 767458 for details.

⚠ PROPOSED TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF NORTH SQUARE - 16 JULY ⚠

We have been advised by Dorset Council that an application has been received from Openreach to temporarily close part of North Square, Chickerell.

The proposed closure will affect the section between Nos. 7 and 17 North Square, covering a distance of approximately 30 metres. The works are required to enable Openreach to carry out a pole replacement.

The closure is scheduled for Thursday 16 July 2026, between 08:00 and 18:00.
During this time, the affected stretch of road will be closed to traffic. Openreach will put measures in place to inform residents and road users, including advance signage in the area, a letter drop to properties directly affected, and a signed vehicular diversion route using the local road network. A map showing the closure and diversion will be shared alongside this post.

This notice is for information, however if you have any concerns about the proposal you can contact Dorset Council’s Traffic Team via [email protected], for the attention of Samantha Paulley, by 2 July 2026.
