1435 Theatre & Museum, where people and stories meet - coming later in 2026! 1435 brings together entertainment and heritage under one roof, in a multi-million-pound transformation designed to delight, inform, and entertain. There is also a small art gallery, and a programme of temporary exhibitions and events throughout the year.

Working Life...
Pre-fabricated concrete housing sections were Reema's speciality. Based on Storforth Lane in the 1950s, Reema houses and public buildings were built across the country. Many of the houses in Chesterfield built in the 1950s and 60s are Reema made buildings as well as St Francis Community Centre at Boythorpe.

Kirk’s builders yard on Chatsworth Road. This well known Chesterfield building firm, founded in 1904, built many local buildings including the former Regal Cinema on Cavendish Street and the Victoria Building on Knifesmithgate.

Working Life...
Arnold Laver, timber merchant, was a part of Chesterfield since the 1930s. After closure, the site was re-developed as part of the Waterside development on Brimington Road.

Working Life...
Horn's Bridge viaduct where Chesterfield's three railways once crossed each other, was a unique feature of the town. The Victorian Midland Railway bridge was replaced in 1932 by a steel one. This was part of a road widening scheme on Lordsmill Street.

Working Life...
This model shows a look of an alternative Chesterfield as envisaged in 1974. It was part of the proposals for the redevelopment of the Market Place. Naturally, there was strong local opposition and alternative plans were developed to retain the historical features of the Market Place.

Working Life...
There's always a great view from the top of a building site. This was taken in 1969 and is the rebuilding of the Natwest bank looking towards the town hall.

Working Life...
There were so many different brick makers in Chesterfield. Lancaster bricks were made at the site of Wheeldon Mill in Brimington in the late 19th century.
