Our quiet heroes 💛

In the toughest moments, our community shows its true strength—and it’s something that deserves to be celebrated. Time and again, when we reach out, you respond without hesitation. And recently, you showed up in the most incredible ways.

When we needed urgent support for funeral costs, provisions, and essential items, you didn’t just help—you rallied. Among you are some truly special “secret angels” who ask for nothing in return, yet give so much. Your generosity and kindness leave us speechless.

Ellie, someone unknown tousand Karina, stepped forward and covered the full balance needed for Karina’s funeral within just a few hours of our post going live. Alongside that, so so many of you gave what you could—money, compassion, and love—turning a moment of hardship into one of unity.

Debbie Munro, a celebrant with a big heart, delivered a deeply moving funeral service completely free of charge. She asked for no recognition yet gave our community something truly priceless.

Annette another angel also showed incredible kindness, stepping in to support a homeless woman by funding a night at the Travelodge—an act that has helped her with her recovery, to rest in safety and engage with services.

Moments like these are a powerful reminder: even in the face of hardship, suffering, and uncertainty, the people we support are never alone. They are surrounded by an army of compassion—the community of Chesterfield.

To every single one of you—thank you. You make this work not just possible, but meaningful beyond words.

🌟 Staff Spotlight: Meet Paul Mahmood our Recovery Worker🌟

We’re proud to shine a light on Paul, who’s been with Pathways for just 3 months — and has already made such an impact that his contract has been extended for another 12 months! 🙌

A proud “Dee Dar” now living in Chesterfield, Paul enjoys football, concerts, days out, and BJJ — but it’s his life experience that truly shapes the incredible work he does.

Paul has lived experience of homelessness and addiction. He knows what rock bottom feels like — the kind of experiences many people couldn’t imagine. That’s exactly why he does what he does today: to make a real, positive difference in someone else’s life.

After facing knockbacks elsewhere, Pathways gave Paul a chance — and he’s determined to prove we made the right decision 💪

And what a job he’s doing…
From running our SMART Recovery group, to 1-2-1 support, helping families, attending hospital appointments, supporting at court, and even stepping in as chef, cleaner, or “marriage guidance” when needed — Paul is there through it all.

As Paul says:
“I love being part of this multi-skilled team and helping clients in chaos and distress. I enjoy the freedom I have here to react quickly to a person’s needs.”

In just a short time, he’s already seen powerful change. One moment that stands out is supporting a woman at a make-or-break crossroads in her life. She chose a different path — and is now moving into her own flat and no longer drinking.

“This is why I wanted to do this job. I don’t want anyone to go through what I did. I’m buzzing to have played a part in her recovery journey — and I’ll continue to do so.”

For Paul, every day is a new challenge — and every day, he shows up ready to make a difference.

We’re lucky to have you, Paul 👏

From homelessness to hope — now they’re running for others 💙

Nathan and Paul, two valued members of the Pathways team, have both experienced homelessness firsthand. Today, they’re giving back in the most inspiring way possible — by taking on the Redbrik 10K to support others facing the same challenges they once did.

Their journey hasn’t been easy, but it’s a powerful reminder that with the right support, lives can be transformed. Now, they’re determined to make a difference for others still on that path.

We’re asking our community to stand behind them. Your support — no matter how small — will help Pathways continue its vital work supporting people experiencing homelessness.

Let’s show them they’re not running alone.

Huge thank you to the amazing team at Willmott Dixon 👏

At 9:30am, an army of volunteers arrived ready to roll up their sleeves and get stuck in — transforming our kitchen and nurses’ room with energy, enthusiasm, and serious teamwork.

They worked tirelessly all day, and the results speak for themselves… the space is brighter, fresher, and full of new life ✨ It’s incredible what a lick of paint — and a lot of kindness — can achieve.

We’re so grateful for your support 💙

If your business would like to get involved and make a real difference with Pathways, we’d love to hear from you!

Easter eggs have a special way of making people smile 💛

This year, we’ll be sharing them at our rough sleeper breakfast so they can be enjoyed a little later in the day. It may seem like a small gesture, but moments like these truly mean so much to those going through difficult times.

It’s about more than chocolate — it’s about showing that people care. Especially during holidays, when many of us are surrounded by comfort and plans, it’s important to remember those who might otherwise feel forgotten.

A huge thank you to Kathryn from Spire FM for delivering the eggs, and to her friend Helen Smithurst for kindly donating them.

Another huge thank you to Fiona at Nuffield Health Chesterfield who gave us 5 large bags of Easter Eggs to hand out. They were collecting them in exchange for leisure day passes! What a great idea. We are so grateful.

Small gestures really do mean the world ✨

TARGET REACHED ❤️ THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH. ANY ADDITIONAL FUNDS RECEIVED FOR KARINA WILL BE USED FOR A MEMORIAL.

💔 Please help us give Karina the dignity she deserves.

Karina Cummins sadly passed away on the 17th of February at just 49 years of age, and heartbreakingly, her body is still being held as we are just £530 short of covering her funeral costs.

Karina was supported by our Pathways team for many years through homelessness and trauma. She was known to us, cared for, and deeply valued.

Karina suffered a cardiac arrest and was cared for in her final week by the amazing staff in ITU at the Royal Hospital. On the day Karina passed away, we sat beside her, speaking gently to her, saying prayers, and reminding her she was loved. She passed peacefully that night.

Liz Devine has been doing everything she can to arrange a respectful farewell for Karina — we are now so close, we just need a little help to reach the final amount. We need help.

If you can, please consider donating via our JustGiving page and include the name KARINA so we can ensure it goes towards her funeral.

https://www.justgiving.com/pathways-ofchesterfield

Funeral details will be shared once we reach the target.

No one should be left waiting like this. Every contribution, no matter how small, will help us give Karina the goodbye she deserves.

Thank you for your kindness ❤️

Our SMART group is doing marvellously well 😊

It took a few months to build up, but now the group is strong, supportive, and helping people make positive changes in their lives.

SMART Recovery is about helping people manage addictive behaviours (like drugs, alcohol, or habits) in a simple, practical way. The group focuses on:
• Coping with urges and cravings
• Building motivation
• Managing thoughts, feelings, and behaviours
• Living a more balanced life
It’s a friendly, relaxed group where people support each other, learn useful tools, and build confidence step by step.

We’re really proud of how well Pathways is doing and how much the group has grown 💙

📅 Every Wednesday at 5.30pm – 7pm
📍 Open to everyone
