As we enter into what looks like a very sunny weekend, many of you may head to the coast, lakes and rivers to soak up the sunshine. We would like to give you some water safety tips on how to enjoy your weekend safely, if near a large body of water.
Go with friends, because being on your own isn’t much fun and if you get into difficulty then you’re friends can call for help.
Wear something bright, for example an orange t shirt or yellow shorts, this will make you easier to spot.
If you’re going on your own, tell someone where you’re going and how long you’ll be, this is so that if you’re over due with no contact the person you told will be able to call the emergency services to help look for you.
Make sure you drink plenty of water, this will ensure that you stay hydrated while having fun.
Lastly, if you or someone else gets into difficulty then encourage them to float on their back like a starfish. And don’t hesitate to call the emergency services - Fire if inland, at lakes or river, or the Coastguard if near the coast (they will then call us if necessary).
We hope everyone has a great weekend.
