A pioneering partnership between our perinatal team has led to significant improvements in outcomes for newborn babies and their families. 💙👶🏻

Since 2018, admissions of babies with suspected hypoxic ischaemic encephalopathy (HIE), a type of brain injury, have fallen from almost 40 to just 10, while the incidence of HIE has reduced from 4.1 to 1 per 1,000 live births.

This incredible achievement is the result of years of dedicated teamwork, innovation and continuous improvement, helping more babies get the best possible start in life.

We're also proud that this work received national recognition recently, winning the Best Presentation Award at the REASON 2026 National Neonatal Scientific Conference.

This World Sexual Health Day, we want to encourage local people to take up the offer of the HPV vaccine and join our efforts to eliminate cervical cancer by 2040.🩷

Our sexual health team are also pleased to be offering a range of vaccines and treatments here in Swindon, including the new vaccine for gonorrhoea, which is a Meningitis B vaccine but also has 40% protection against gonorrhoea, the MPOX vaccine and doxy-PEP (doxycycline-post-exposure prophylaxis) which protects mainly against syphilis but also gonorrhoea and chlamydia.

A huge congratulations to Vidhu Francis, Surgical Surveillance Nurse, who was won our latest Star of the Month Award.👏⭐

Since joining her role, Vidhu has gone above and beyond to improve patient outcomes by leading work to monitor and reduce surgical site infections. From personally following up with patients after their surgery to analysing data, spotting trends and driving improvements, her work has strengthened patient safety and quality of care across the Surgical Division.

She has also brought teams together through dedicated governance meetings and close collaboration with clinicians and microbiology colleagues, ensuring that learning is translated into action.

Protect little noses this flu season 👃💙

Children aged 2 and 3 years old can get their free flu vaccine from 1 September.

The flu vaccine helps protect your child from becoming unwell and reduces the spread of flu to family members, friends and other children. For most children, the vaccine is given as a quick and painless nasal spray.

If your child is eligible, please contact your GP practice to book an appointment.

Most school-aged children (reception to Year 11) will be offered their flu vaccine through the School Aged Immunisation Service starting from 1 September.

If you have a loved one due to be discharged from hospital, there are simple things you can do to help get them home sooner.

This includes arriving promptly to collect them from hospital, organising their medication and getting the home ready for their return.
