National Cadets Week – Flag Lowering Ceremony

Today marked the formal close of National Cadets Week, as Sea Cadets, Army Cadets, and RAF Air Cadets came together for a dignified Flag Lowering Ceremony in Essex.

Cadets and volunteers from all three services gathered in the Regimental Church of the Anglian & Essex Regiments for a reflective service led by Rev. Michael Child, with music provided by Essex Wing Music Services.

Throughout the service, cadets and adult volunteers delivered excellent readings and personal reflections; speaking about why they joined, what they have gained, and why they continue to be part of the cadet organisations. Their words highlighted the confidence, skills, friendships and sense of purpose that cadet life brings.

Following the service, the cadets marched together as a unified tri‑service parade, with Dame Mary Richardson taking the Salute. The ceremony concluded with the lowering of the National Cadets Week flag, signifying the end of this year’s celebrations and recognising the commitment of every cadet and volunteer across Essex.

A proud moment of unity and reflection for the three cadet organisations.

This National Cadets Week, we’re celebrating the young people who make Essex Army Cadets such a proud and inspiring organisation.

Being a cadet isn’t just about attending training nights or going on camp. It’s about discovering strengths, building confidence, and learning skills that stay with you long after you leave the detachment. Cadets learn how to lead, how to communicate, how to work as a team, and how to stay calm under pressure. They learn resilience, responsibility and the ability to step forward when others hesitate.

These are skills that shape futures. Whether our cadets go on to college, apprenticeships, university, the Armed Forces, or civilian careers, the experiences they gain here help them stand out. They learn how to solve problems, support others, and push themselves further; qualities that employers, communities and teams value everywhere.

Annual Camp brings all of this together. It’s a week where cadets challenge themselves, try new things, grow in confidence and build friendships that last for years. It’s also a chance to recognise the dedication of our adult volunteers, who give their time and experience to help young people achieve their potential.

Here is our County Photo for Annual Camp 2026, celebrating every cadet and adult volunteer who makes Essex Army Cadets what it is.

Our cadets are outstanding young people, and we are proud of every single one of them.

National Cadet Week – Tri‑Service Cadet Flag Raising

Today, cadets from Sea Cadets, Army Cadets, and RAF Air Cadets came together for a special tri‑service flag raising to mark National Cadet Week.

We heard from three speakers; a Sea Cadet Corps civilian committee member, an Army Cadet Force Adult Volunteer, and a RAF Air Cadet. Each shared what being part of a Cadet Organisation means to them.

As part of the ceremony, we were honoured to present the Lord Lieutenant of Essex with an Essex Rose to mark her upcoming retirement and to thank her for her long‑standing support to the cadet forces.

A proud moment for all three services standing together.
