Next up in our Meet the Team series ahead of our Wedding Showcase is Ali! ✨

Ali is Hylands’ Finance & Business support and has been an incredibly important part of the team for over 25 years! Ali looks after the financial side of our weddings and is always on hand to help couples with any finance-related questions throughout their wedding journey.

📸Ali’s favourite photo spot is in the Library, in front of the grand fireplace — the only original fireplace in Hylands, beautifully crafted from Italian marble. With its elegant and historic surroundings, it makes a truly stunning backdrop for your wedding photos!

Can you believe it’s September already?
Before we head into autumn, we’re looking back at some of our favourite moments from a busy summer at Hylands.

From open-air cinema and Shakespeare on the lawn, to the very first State Fayre taking over Hylands Park, plus our monthly Open Estate Days, we’ve loved seeing so many of you enjoying the Estate over the past few months.

Just two weeks to go until our next Open Estate Day! 🍔🎶
Step inside Hylands House and discover more about its history with our guided tours, enjoy storytelling for younger visitors, then head over to The Stables where our Artist Studios will be open and there’ll be live music in the courtyard.

will also be back outside the front of the House with a mix of street food, drinks, gifts and crafts.

Something new to spot on your next walk around Hylands… 👀🌿

A collection of willow animal sculptures is being installed along the Winter Walk, inspired by the wildlife found across the Estate.

A big thank you to local artist Deb Hart for creating these lovely new additions to the gardens!

With the kids heading back to school soon, maybe it’s time to learn something new yourself! ✂️💍🎩

Our Artist Studios are home to a brilliant range of makers, with workshops coming up this September in sewing, jewellery making, millinery and stained and warm glass.

Some sessions fill up quickly (September’s glass workshops are already sold out), so if something catches your eye, it’s worth planning ahead.

Did you know parts of the original red-brick Hylands House are still hiding in plain sight? 👀

Completed in 1730 for Sir John Comyns, Hylands looked very different from the white neoclassical house we know today. And if you know where to look, you can still find traces of that earlier building.

Head down to the basement and you can spot part of an original external window, complete with its iron grille. The window once looked out onto a trench surrounding the house, which helped bring light and ventilation into the basement rooms before it was filled in during later alterations.

Nearby, you can also see the remains of the original bread oven, which once connected to the fireplace in the Small Dining Room and helped provide heat to the House.

You don’t have to head down to the basement to spot traces of the original house either. Just outside the Drawing Room on the ground floor, a section of the original brickwork has also been left exposed.

Our next Open Estate Day on 13 September is a great opportunity to take a closer look at some of the many layers of Hylands’ history!

Join one of our guided tours, or simply explore the house and discover the information panels dotted throughout the rooms.
