🎵 Another one bites the dust… 🎵

Just over a year after being elected as a Reform UK county councillor, Charlotte Kelly has become the latest to walk away from Nigel Farage’s party.

Kelly, who represents Leek Rural on Staffordshire County Council, has announced she’s defecting to the Conservatives, saying she feels the party is now her “natural home” and speaking openly about the difficulties she experienced as a Reform member.

The Conservative group says it offered her “friendship, support and encouragement” during her time in Reform. Make of that what you will. 😬

It’s another reminder that many of Reform’s election victories were built on candidates who were already Conservatives, ex-Conservatives, or people with very loose ties to Reform in the first place. And once the distraction of Reform’s internal squabbles began, turquoise suddenly looks a lot less appealing… 😳

A year on from Reform’s much-hyped local election breakthrough, the revolving door is still spinning. Councillors have resigned, been suspended, been expelled, quit politics altogether, or fallen out with the party that got them elected in record proportions.

And for a party that promised to replace the Conservatives, Reform seems to supply them with an increasing number of councillors due to their infighting... 👀

We’re delighted to welcome Cllr Charlotte Kelly, County Councillor for Leek Rural, back to the Conservative Party.

Charlotte has taken the decision to leave Reform UK after raising concerns about bullying and sexism within the group and a failure by its leadership to address those concerns.

Speaking about her decision, Charlotte said:

“Throughout this period, Conservative councillors have been welcoming, supportive and respectful. Having previously been a member of the Conservative Party, I already knew many of the people involved and the values they stand for. I am a traditional Conservative and under Kemi Badenoch’s leadership I feel the party is my natural home.”

Leader of the Conservative Group (Staffordshire County Council), Cllr Philip White, welcomed Charlotte’s return:

“Charlotte is a dedicated and hardworking councillor who has always put her residents first. We are delighted to welcome her back to the Conservative Party and look forward to working with her on behalf of communities across Staffordshire.”

Charlotte will continue to serve the residents of Leek Rural and work alongside Conservative colleagues to deliver for local communities across Staffordshire.

Please join us in welcoming Charlotte back to the Conservative team.

Ahead of the State Opening of Parliament today, the Conservatives have published their alternative King's Speech, the legislation we would pass if we were in government.

While Labour are paralysed by Kier Starmer's efforts to cling onto office, Kemi Badenoch and her team are focused on delivering real solutions to the issues facing our country.

Our Leader Cllr Mark Deaville has written to the Prime Minister opposing Local Government Re-organisation and the merging of Staffordshire Moorlands into Stoke.

Only the Conservatives are fighting our corner for the Staffordshire Moorlands. Labour and Reform have put forward proposals that will merge the beautiful Staffordshire Moorlands with Stoke-on-Trent.

Cllr Deaville invited parish councils from right across Staffordshire to countersign his letter and there’s been a tremendous reaction from parish councils. Many thanks for the support.
