Being a good neighbour doesn’t start at the curfew. The people around you may have work, school, young children or other reasons why late-night fireworks can be disruptive.

🎇 Using fireworks safely means thinking about more than just the people
watching your display. Read the instructions, follow the required safety distance and make sure everyone involved knows what to do. But safety doesn’t stop at your garden. Think about how your choices affect the people, animals and spaces around
you too.

📍 This is what a looks like in Medway
This rubbish was dumped at Brooklyn Paddock, Burnham Road, Trinity Road, Maplins Close, Lower Bloors Lane and Upnor Road.
Fly-tipped waste doesn’t simply disappear – it ends up here, in the places our community shares. Fly-tipping blights our neighbourhoods, costs money to clean up and can harm our environment.
And it can start with something as simple as choosing the wrong person to take your rubbish away.
Before you pay someone to collect your rubbish:

✅ Ask for a waste carrier licence
✅ Check the number on the Environment Agency register
✅ Check you’ll get a receipt

Protect yourself. Protect your community. Protect your local environment.

🔥 Bonfire Night is a time to celebrate, but not everyone experiences fireworks in the same way. Unexpected fireworks can be particularly difficult for some people, including veterans living with PTSD, people with anxiety or dementia, autistic people and children with sensory sensitivities. Let your neighbours know in advance if you’re
planning a display. A quick heads-up gives people time to prepare themselves, their children or their animals.
It only takes a moment to think beyond your garden.

If you’re moving house, renovating or need waste gone quickly, don’t let a tempting price rush you into making the wrong choice.
Our research found that just 9% of people who had previously used a private waste collector checked the Environment Agency’s official register - and 38% worried that rubbish they’d paid someone to remove may have been dumped irresponsibly.
The good news? There are three simple checks you can make.
Before you hand your rubbish over to someone you’ve found online:
✅ Ask for a waste carrier licence
✅ Check the number on the Environment Agency register
✅ Check you’ll get a receipt
It takes minutes and could stop your rubbish ending up fly-tipped in your local community.

🎆 Your firework display might only last a short time, but giving your neighbours advance notice can make a real difference.
Some people find unexpected fireworks genuinely distressing. Others may simply
want time to prepare themselves, their children or their animals.
