That face you make when the goal is so good! I saw it first-hand last week at Chatham Football Club celebrity soccer match,

played for something bigger than the scoreline.
This was a fundraiser for One Big Family - Helping the Homeless

Ten years serving Medway.
A soup kitchen on Chatham High Street, every Sunday evening.

A 17-bedroom supported accommodation project in Chatham.

Food parcels and homestarter packs, three times a week.

A winter night shelter when the cold sets in.
Ten years of showing up.

No fanfare.

Just hands and a roof, and a warm meal for people who needed one.
That is what community looks like.
Back them. Share this. Tell someone in Medway who they are.

Rochester has the castle.

Chatham has the dockyard.
Intra has the SOUND.
This Saturday, IntraFest lands.
Two stages. Over 20 local bands and DJs.

Theatre. Art. Market stalls.

Street food, craft beer, cocktails by the river.
All of it FREE.
No tickets. No queues. No catch.

Just Medway's most creative corner — out in the daylight, where it belongs.
Bring the family. Bring your mates. Bring nothing but yourselves.
Saturday. Between Rochester and Chatham.

You already know where.
We'll see you there.

I'm honoured to support the Sunlight Development Trust with the BIG HELP OUT, It is also one of my chosen charities for my maoral term.

We're raising awareness of their amazing community programs, including this green space project right here in Gillingham. I'm proud to represent this initiative and encourage everyone to get involved, whether by volunteering your time or simply showing your support.

We have exciting events planned throughout the year, so stay tuned!

Thanks Megan and the Team for putting the work in!
I see you 🫵🏽❤️

My first official engagement as Deputy Mayor of Medway, and I couldn’t have imagined a more meaningful way to begin this journey.

On Saturday, I had the privilege of attending the 60th anniversary celebrations of Samaritans Medway, Gravesham and Swale, celebrating 60 years of local volunteers providing support, compassion and a listening ear to those who needed it most.

It was an emotional and inspiring afternoon. Throughout the celebration, I found myself in awe of the dedication shown by the volunteers and the difference they make to so many lives. Some were receiving awards recognising nearly 40 years of service. That is far more than volunteering – it is a lifelong commitment to supporting others and an extraordinary act of kindness.

A particular highlight was a beautiful artwork created by Alice Jo depicting the different buildings the Samaritans have called home over the past six decades. It was a wonderful reminder of how the organisation has grown whilst remaining true to its purpose.

What struck me most was hearing about the sheer number of people supported every day. Since the introduction of the national call system, volunteers are now helping people not only locally, but across the country and, in some cases, internationally. Often they never know what happened after the call ends. They simply listen, without judgement, and trust that their compassion has helped someone begin to put the pieces back together.

Anyone who knows me knows how passionately I believe in the power of listening. Sometimes the greatest gift we can give another person is the time and space to talk without judgement. Being truly heard can help people find their own strength, regain confidence and see a way forward. The volunteers at the Samaritans don’t tell people what to do; they listen, they support, and they empower people to find the answers that are right for them.

Listening is a skill. The volunteers at the Samaritans have turned it into an art form.

It was an honour to meet so many remarkable people on Saturday. I hesitate to call what they do “work” because it feels like something much deeper than that. Their compassion, dedication and humanity make a difference to countless lives every single day.

My sincere thanks to Adrian for hosting such a wonderful celebration and to Joanne for all the hard work behind the scenes in making the event such a success.

I will always remember this as my first official event as Deputy Mayor. The kindness, dedication and humility of the volunteers I met will stay with me for a very long time. I also promised that I would arrive armed with chocolate biscuits on a future visit, and I fully intend to keep that promise! I look forward to seeing everyone again and continuing to support the incredible work of the Samaritans in the future.

Thank you to every Samaritans volunteer, past and present. For 60 years you have been there to listen, to care, and to remind people that they do not have to face life’s challenges alone.

Listening changes lives, and Saturday reminded me just how powerful that can be.

💚 Happy 60th Anniversary, Samaritans Medway, Gravesham and Swale. 💚

Last year, I walked these aisles as a supporter.
This year, I open the doors as your Mayor.

Same cathedral.
Same shared purpose.
Same colourful, common humanity gathered under one roof.

On Wednesday, I had the honour of opening MVA's Volunteer Fair Creating Connections at the Cathedral, alongside Canon Reverend Gordon Giles and his team at Rochester Cathedral.
Volunteers' Week is a UK-wide campaign that has run for over 40 years.

A platform to stop and say thank you to the people who give their time, their skill, their hands, asking for nothing back.
And here is the truth about that work.

It IS work.
It is possibly the best work you can do.
To stick your neck above the parapet and say:

"I can do it. I want to add value."
Because every one of us has value to give.
Whatever our race.
Whatever our age.
Whatever our postcode.

Volunteers are humble by nature. Shy of the spotlight. They don't do it for the plaudits.
But if we don't big up our volunteers, who will?
My job as your Mayor is simple.
I see you.🫵🏽
And I am here to amplify. 🫶🏼

Thank you to every person who made this day what it was and to everyone across Medway still asking, "How can I help?"
The door is open. Come and find your place in it.

Phase 1 done.
Today I opened Sofia's Memorial Throne in Halling, with the Mayoress and Vince Maple , Leader of Medway Council.
A throne by the river.
£50,000 raised.
A village that showed up.
The Bluebell Circle set out to turn a desert into a garden.
They did it.
In memory of Sofia Le Brunn-Healey, a place forever young.
Phase 2 is coming.
She reigns. 💙

Wow, what a day!
you just stand in a place and feel the weight of what a community can build.

Today I had the honour of opening Sofia's Memorial Throne in Halling, alongside the Mayoress, and Vince Maple Leader of Medway Council .

A throne by the river.
Fifty thousand pounds raised.
A picnic, a parade, and a whole village showing up.
All of it for Sofia Le Brunn-Healey.

The Bluebell Circle set out to turn a desert into a garden and today, Phase 1 is done.
But this is not the end of the story.
It is the end of the beginning.

Phase 2, the community garden is still to come. A place forever young, renewed with every season.

To Rob and Alyce, to The Bluebell Circle, to everyone who carried this:

You did the hardest thing.
You built Sofia a garden.
And here, by this river, in her Queendom, she will reign forever, the love, joy and curiosity which was her life. .
Share this if Sofia's story moved you today. 💙

This morning, I stood at Holy Trinity Church, Twydall.
Surrounded by veterans, bikers, and standard bearers, all gathered for one reason.

To remember.
The Falklands Ride of Respect travels across the UK paying tribute to our brave servicemen and women that given their lives defending our freedoms,

We honoured Corporal Andrew McIlvenny a Sapper from Medway's own community, killed aboard RFA Sir Galahad
on the 8th of June, 1982.

Forty-four years on, they still come and in more numbes.
That is what trust looks like.
That is what community looks like.
That is what hope looks like, the belief that no one who gave everything will ever be forgotten.

To every veteran who rode today, thank you.
Medway sees you!

Today I had the privilege of opening the new James Williams Centre in Chatham, a healthy living centre that honours not just James’ name, but his lifelong question about what we owe each other in Medway.
Thank you to everyone who made this possible: our commissioners and NHS partners, Medway Council colleagues, the voluntary and community sector, and above all James’ family for allowing his legacy to live on in this way.
My hope is that this centre becomes exactly what he worked for – a place where people are seen, heard, and helped earlier, and where staff, partners and communities keep asking that “one last question”: who is still not walking through these doors?
