Taking a dip in the sea on a hot day? ⛱️

Don’t be fooled, just because it’s sunny doesn’t mean the water is warm.

Entering cold water, whether deliberately or accidentally, can cause cold water shock.

When this happens, you may gasp involuntarily, followed by rapid breathing that can be very difficult to control. This can increase the risk of inhaling water and drowning.

Never jump straight in. Instead, enter the water slowly to help your body adjust, and avoid swimming alone. Wearing a wetsuit can also help by improving buoyancy and reducing the effects of cold water.

Don’t forget to have warm clothes ready for when you come back to shore.

In an emergency at the coast, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

Tasking today 11/05/2026

Tasked to a person stuck in the mud by the entrance to Par Beach

Once the team were on scene we established a rescue plan working along side St Austell Community Fire Station with the Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team on route as the mud rescue team.

The teams worked closely together to extract the casualty from the mud and hand them over to the waiting ambulance for checking over.

The right call to 999 for the coastguard and fire meant the casualty got the right rescue services on scene

We would like to thank all of the public who patiently waited as the road was blocked whilst we all carried out the rescue

Team call out

A late night call out for the team and Fowey RNLI

We were tasked early Monday morning to assist with an unwell person on a yacht, on the Fowey river

Once the person was safely ashore with the team, we gave casualty care until the arrival of the ambulance service

A great team effort for the benefit of the casualty, who we wish a speedy recovery.

They made the right call to the right emergency service. Always call 999 for the Coastguard for any coastal emergency.

We have been a bit quiet on social media recently, but we have been busy training and keeping our skills up to date and ready for action

Tonight was a casualty care session around basic life support, AED, airway management for both adults and children

We are on call 24/7 to respond to 999 calls for assistance on the coast
