Highdown Gardens are looking spectacular, with a wonderful collection of colourful flowers, shrubs and trees from across the globe now in bloom. 🌸🌿

From vibrant peonies and elegant tulips to beautiful flowering trees originally sourced from eastern Asia, the gardens are a feast for the eyes at this time of year and offer something new to discover around every corner.

Our much-loved chalk gardens are carefully maintained by our team of skilled gardeners and green-fingered volunteers, whose work helps preserve and propagate this unique collection while also supporting guided tours for visitors.

There’s plenty to look forward to this summer too. In July, Rainbow Shakespeare returns to Highdown Gardens with outdoor performances of Romeo and Juliet and Richard III.

Designed to be accessible and enjoyable for all ages, the productions are the perfect excuse to pack a picnic, relax among the blooms and experience Shakespeare in a memorable open-air setting. Find out more and book your tickets: https://highdowngardens.co.uk/rainbow-shakespeare/

As the weather continues to improve, why not make a day of it? Visit Highdown Gardens, enjoy lunch or refreshments at The Highdown, and round off your trip with a walk across the beautiful South Downs at Highdown Hill.

The new wayfinding monoliths are now fully installed across Worthing town centre, making it easier than ever to explore everything our town has to offer. 🚶🔎

More than just maps and directions, the monoliths have been designed to encourage visitors and residents alike to discover somewhere new. Whether you're strolling along the seafront or exploring the town centre, they’ll help you find your way while showcasing what makes Worthing special.

The network divides the town into four distinct areas – East Beach, West End, Town Centre and Civic Quarter – each with its own colour and shape, celebrating the unique character and attractions of that part of the town.

Building on the original signs installed near Worthing Station, the expanded network has been made possible through support from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and developed in collaboration with local creatives, heritage specialists, businesses and community groups.

Next time you're out and about, why not take a different route and see what you discover?

Here's Hemiko's latest Worthing Heat Network update 👇

Worthing Heat Network Construction Update

From 15 June until 22 July, we’ll be carrying out pipe installation works to connect the existing heat network to Splashpoint Leisure Centre.

The first set of works will set up on 15 June along Marine Parade, near Crabshack, where a temporary construction area will be put in place. Within the fenced zone, construction works will be undertaken to connect up to Splashpoint ahead of the summer holidays. Around 30 parking bays on the south side of Marine Parade will be temporarily suspended. Traffic will continue to flow as normal throughout, and we plan to complete these works ahead of the summer school holidays.

To enable the final connection into Splashpoint, works will also take place along the cycle path between the Splash Pad and Splashpoint Leisure Centre. From 25 June, the cycle route will be temporarily suspended, with cyclists required to dismount and walk through through the Beach House Grounds.

For pedestrians, a short diversion will be in place between the Splash Pad and New Parade Gardens via Beach House Grounds. Access will remain open at all times for East Beach Chalets, K66 Surf Shop, and the Splash Pad, which will continue to operate as usual. The beachfront will remain unaffected during the works.

We had originally planned to begin work in Steyne Gardens and on High Street at the same time as these works. However, due to programme pressures and engineering challenges, these works have been temporarily paused. This will allow time for full reinstatement of the gardens ahead of Armed Forces Day and Pride. A revised start date will be shared in due course.

🚧 We are working closely with Worthing Borough Council and local partners to carefully plan works around busy periods and minimise impact on residents, businesses, and visitors.

🗺️Check out the updated interactive map on our website for details of upcoming works at www.worthingheatnetwork.co.uk

♿ If you have accessibility requirements or concerns about accessing your property during these works, please get in touch with the team.

Have you spotted the new wayfinding monoliths appearing around Worthing? đź‘€

Designed to help you explore more of our town, these new monoliths are much more than maps and directions. They’re an invitation to discover somewhere new, whether you’re visiting for the first time or have called Worthing home for years.

The new wayfinding network divides the town centre into four distinct areas – East Beach, West End, Town Centre and Civic Quarter – each with its own colour and shape to make navigating easier while celebrating the unique character of different areas.

Continuing on from the first signs installed near Worthing Station, the network is expanding across the town centre thanks to support from the government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Developed in collaboration with local creatives, heritage specialists, businesses and community groups, the monoliths reflect the pride people have in Worthing and a shared ambition to make the town more welcoming, accessible and enjoyable to explore.

The remaining monoliths will be installed later this week, so keep an eye out as they continue to pop up across town.

Landscaping work has started at Homefield Park this week to create a new planted area with sustainable drainage that will help prevent flooding.

We completed work on the new playground at Homefield Park earlier this year - moving it from its former spot, which regularly flooded during heavy rain.

The former playground site was left to settle for a few months and groundworks are now being carried out by contractor Edburton, before grass seed is planted. Edburton is carrying out the work for free as part of its social value commitment to the town, stemming from its work at Montague Gardens.

A rain garden will be created to take advantage of the natural rainwater capture in this area, as well as provide attractive planting and increased biodiversity.

New shrubs and plants are being sourced locally from Highdown Gardens and One Garden in Stanmer Park, Brighton, and will be planted this autumn.

More bursts of colour have arrived in our town centre this morning as our parks team continues its much-loved seasonal bedding programme. 🌸🌼

Today, the team has been busy in Warwick Street and Montague Street, installing vibrant flower displays on lamp posts to help make our town centre more welcoming for residents and visitors.

The programme got underway last week, with planters added to some of the main gateways into the town centre, and we'll be bringing even more colour to key areas over the coming weeks.

Beyond the town centre, our parks team has also been brightening up Worthing Crematorium with newly installed hanging baskets. Its sustainable planters – filled with hardy species that provide year-round colour – are looking fantastic too.

We hope these summer displays bring a little extra enjoyment to everyone who lives in, works in and visits our town.
