We're a wild haven for everyone! Foxglove Covert Local Nature Reserve covers 100 acres of moorland edge adjacent to Cambrai Lines at Catterick and has a remarkable mix of habitats and species. Our red route is fully accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs. No entrance charge is ever made, although a donation of ยฃ3.00 per visitor will go a long way to helping us raise over ยฃ120,000 per annum that it costs to keep the reserve running. Car parking costs only ยฃ3. There is a parking meter at the first parking area or you can pay in the Field Centre. Card payments are accepted. All money from parking goes directly towards the running of the reserve. Friends and volunteers park for free. Well behaved dogs on leads are welcome to visit us. We ask that owners please clean up after them.

As the days get shorter and the leaves turn brown, we can't stop thinking about one thing... our next dates for activity days! ๐Ÿ‚

This October, join us at the Field Center for two days worth of seasonal themed crafts and activities in the classroom, as well as snacks and drinks at our tuck shop! ๐Ÿ„๐Ÿ

We'll also be holding our brand new woodland storytelling and play sessions! Each session begins with a cosy woodland tale before bringing it to life with themed, hands-on play activities hidden among the trees. ๐ŸŒณ

Our children's trail will also be changing with the season, and we'll give you a hint on it's theme... ๐Ÿฟ๏ธ๐Ÿพโ„๏ธ

๐ŸŽซThere are limited spaces on the storytelling and play sessions so book your place quick!
More information on both events can be found on our Eventbrite page:

This week, our volunteers were back on the waxcap meadow to tackle the next stage: Baling! ๐ŸŒพ

After tedding and raking the grass into traditional stooks last week to dry, the team then used our hand-baler to process it into sturdy bales. These bales will then be placing them around areas of the reserve to create seating for visitors.

We are so incredibly grateful for our dedicated weekly volunteers. No matter the job, they get totally stuck in and tackle every single task head-on! If you'd be interested in joining our weekly practical volunteer group, please email or message us! โœ‰

We've had a wonderful summer here at Foxglove Covert, and our summer activity days were a big success! โ˜€๏ธ

Children have explored the classroom, played animal-themed games and joined in with craft activities. A whopping 222 children got involved with our pond-dipping sessions, where they learnt all about the creatures that live beneath the surface and got the opportunity to see them up close! ๐Ÿชฒ

Stay tuned over the next couple of days for information on our Autumn Activity Days ๐Ÿ‘€

Don't worry if you didn't get the opportunity to join us this summer, as next week we'll be hosting our final pond-dipping sessions of the year as part of Heritage Open Days!

Booking is required for this event, and all information is available on our Eventbrite page: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/pond-dipping-for-heritage-open-days-tickets-1999016394849

Weโ€™ve had a busy week working on our waxcap meadows! ๐Ÿ„

On Monday, staff and volunteers tackled the meadow using traditional scythes. Those who attended our scything course back in July had a fantastic opportunity to put their new skills to the test! A huge thank you to@justthejob30, who kindly let us use their Auto Scythe to clear through the tougher growth.

On Tuesday, our practical volunteers were back at it tedding (turning over) the windrows left from Monday's scything so the hay could aerate and dry out. Once dry, it was bundled into stooks, ready to be hand-baled next week! ๐ŸŒพ

If you are interested in getting involved with practical volunteer work, please email us at [email protected] ๐ŸŒณ
