Over the half term, our cadets had a fantastic opportunity to visit RAF Coningsby for a day learning more about the Royal Air Force both past and present.

The visit included time with the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, where cadets were able to learn about the important role it plays in preserving our aviation heritage and commemorating those who served during World War Two. Seeing these historic aircraft up close gave cadets a real appreciation of the legacy behind some of the RAF’s most iconic aircraft.

Cadets also had the chance to learn more about the modern RAF aircraft through the Typhoon, gaining an insight into one of the UK’s frontline fast jet capabilities!

The day also included a visit to the Survival Equipment Section, where cadets learnt about the vital equipment and specialist work that helps keep aircrew safe.

It was a brilliant experience for our cadets, offering a valuable look at the teamwork, professionalism and wide range of roles undertaken within the Royal Air Force.

A huge thank you to everyone at RAF Coningsby who supported the visit!

A fantastic first day for our cadets on their Bronze practice expedition despite the warm weather!

The team have spent the day putting their training into action, navigating their route, working together and developing their expedition skills in the outdoors.

They have settled in for the night after erecting their tents and making their evening meal to get ready for day two tomorrow!

Well done everyone, keep it up!

Last weekend, CI Hutchinson took part in Module 3 of the Lowland Expedition Leader course run by the Wing in the Yorkshire Dales.

Setting off from the iconic Ribblehead Viaduct, the group trekked around 20km to Stainforth on Saturday, before continuing with a final push over to Settle on Sunday.

The Dales certainly delivered some challenging Yorkshire weather, including plenty of torrential rain, but it did not dampen the spirits or the learning! ⛈️

Throughout the weekend, CI Hutchinson continued to develop key skills including:

🔴 Navigation: Macro and micro navigation techniques.
🔵 Leadership: Group management in challenging conditions.
🟢 Expedition Skills: Compass work, pacing and route judgement.

This marked the final training weekend before she now heads out to gain 30 hours of practical experience over the summer, ahead of assessment later in the year.

Once qualified, CI Hutchinson will be able to support and lead cadet day walks and Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expeditions, helping provide even more opportunities for cadets at 2388 (Castleford) Squadron.

A huge well done to CI Hutchinson! 👏

Today two of our Cadets have been gliding in a winch launched glider with our colleagues at 645 Volunteer Gliding Squadron at RAF Topcliffe. The weather was bright and clear as they flew in the glider for the first time learning all about the controls and how it operates! Fancy a go or know someone who does - we are recruiting now!
