🚔👮 Child Safety Week 👮🚔

To kick-start Child Safety Week at Scruffs, we were delighted to welcome PC Currie to visit the children and talk about the important topic of safe strangers and unsafe strangers.

The children were fully engaged throughout the visit, asking lots of thoughtful questions and learning what they should do if they ever become lost. They also had the exciting opportunity to try on parts of the police uniform, see handcuffs and batons up close, and learn more about the role of police officers in our community.

The highlight of the visit was getting to see the police car, watch the flashing blue lights, and hear the sirens in action! 🚓✨

A huge thank you to our local police officer for taking the time to visit us and help the children learn valuable safety messages in such an interactive and memorable way.

Thanks to the incredible support from our families, friends, local businesses, and wider community, Scruffs Childcare has already smashed our original fundraising goal 💛

But we’re not stopping there… 🥳

Our fundraising Bingo Night on Friday 19th June 2026 at Threave Rovers Social Club is still going ahead, and we can’t wait for a brilliant night together full of bingo, raffles, laughs, and community spirit 🎁✨

Every extra penny raised will go towards even more exciting outdoor resources and experiences for the children 🌿🛝

A huge thank you to one of our amazing nursery grandparents who will be hosting the evening for us!

We are still looking for raffle prize donations from local businesses, families, and parents — any contribution, big or small, would be hugely appreciated 💛

🎟️ Raffle tickets will be on sale soon, so keep an eye on our page for updates!

🎉⭐️ AMAZING FUNDRAISING NEWS ⭐️🎉

We are absolutely delighted to share that, thanks to the incredible support from our children, families, staff and wider community, our fundraising efforts for a new poly tunnel have been a huge success! 🌱💚

Our children had so much fun taking part in the sponsored walks and we are so proud of every single one of them 🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️⭐️

We honestly cannot thank everyone enough for all of the sponsorships, scratch cards, donations and continued support throughout our fundraising. The kindness and generosity shown by our nursery community and local supporters has been truly amazing and will make such a difference to our nursery environment 😊

We will be sharing lots of photos from our sponsored walks, along with some special thank yous to our supporters, next week 📸💛

Our original target was £1500… and together we completely surpassed it by raising an AMAZING…

🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞

What a beautiful week we have had! The children have all enjoyed this wonderful weather and spending lots of time in our garden and on a great trip out! The children have been busy giving us some amazing ideas that they would love to have in the garden and some of them have came to life 🙂
We now have a dinosaur world 🦖🦕 which has sparked lots of fun and curiosity along with an in progress construction area 🚧👷

Some of our children also enjoyed a fantastic day out on a nursery trip 🌿✨

The children enjoyed exploring the beauty of nature, discovering new sights, sounds, and textures along the way. They had great fun playing on a small beach, where there was plenty of laughter, creativity, and teamwork.

We also took a step back in time as the children explored the history of an old train line, sparking lots of curiosity and wonderful conversations.

Along with a lovely picnic and some fun games with the parachute 🪂

It was a day full of adventure, learning, and smiles all around—memories we will cherish! 💚

And that’s a wrap on our Easter holidays at Scruffs! 🐣✨
What a fantastic two weeks we’ve had – filled with fun, laughter, and so many wonderful experiences for the children. We truly hope they’ve enjoyed every moment as much as we have.
Over the holidays we’ve been out and about making the most of our adventures – trips to the beach and forest, a beach clean, a visit to the planetarium, and lots of fun at Crocketford Park 🌊🌳🌍
Now we’re already looking ahead to summer ☀️ and have lots of exciting plans in the works. We can’t wait to share everything we’ve got coming up with you over the next few weeks!

🌱 Scruffs Childcare Fundraiser – Help Us Grow! 🌱
At Scruffs Childcare, we absolutely love getting our children outdoors, learning, exploring, and growing their own fruits and vegetables in our polytunnel. It’s such a special part of what we do, helping build confidence, independence, and a real connection with nature 🌼
Unfortunately, with the delightful (and very unpredictable!) Scottish weather, our polytunnel doesn’t stand much of a chance… and sadly, year after year, it gets blown away and torn beyond repair 💨
This year, we’re hoping to change that.
We’re fundraising to raise £1500 for a new polytunnel with a much stronger, more durable structure—something that will last and allow the children to continue enjoying outdoor growing all year round 🌿
We would be incredibly grateful for any support from our wonderful community and amazing parents. Whether it’s a small donation or simply sharing our post, it all makes a huge difference 💛

Our final adventure for the holidays and what a lovely one it was! 🌿☀️

The children hopped on the bus today.We headed off to Dalbeattie Woods, following the trails and… successfully not getting lost! 🙌

The children showed great teamwork and enthusiasm as they explored, building confidence, problem-solving, and learning about the natural world around them. Being outdoors, staying active, and breathing in that fresh air does wonders for our mental health and wellbeing – for both children and adults 💛

We then made our way to Dalbeattie Park for a well-earned lunch, full of chats, laughter, and relaxation.

And can we just say… what an absolute pleasure the children have been. They listened so well, followed instructions beautifully, and showed lovely manners throughout the weeks we are so proud of them all.

Also the team that help this all happen, Pam the Chef for getting our food ready and the amazing Elcc team that make all this happen.
