A couple of weeks ago, some of our crew took part in a challenging training exercise organised by a Castle Cary firefighter
The scenario involved a vehicle that had crashed into a structure, leaving the building unstable and creating a complex rescue situation. With multiple casualties at the scene, crews were required to carry out β10-second triageβ assessments to identify and prioritise those most in need of urgent treatment.
While some firefighters focused on casualty care, others worked to clear debris, assess hazards and locate the vehicle. Once access had been gained, crews used specialist cutting and spreading equipment to carefully extricate the driver from the wreckage.
Exercises like this provide invaluable opportunities to practise teamwork, decision-making and rescue techniques in realistic conditions, helping ensure we are prepared for the wide range of incidents we may face.
A huge thank you goes to Peter Green Chilled for the use of their yard and for their assistance in setting up the exercise. Their support helped create a realistic training environment and contributed greatly to the success of the day.
