Cove Road – Children’s Playground closed 20 and 21 April
The Children’s Playground at Cove Road will be closed on Monday 20th and Tuesday 21st April to allow Parish Council contractors to renovate and resin point the entrance paved area. This is to protect users from being affected by dust when the old pointing is ground out. The pathway to Silverdale Bowling Club will still be open and the contractors have been asked to stop work if members wish to pass by. We are sorry for any inconvenience.

Affordable Homes in Silverdale
Over 30 residents attended the Public Meeting held on Saturday 11 April 2026 at Silverdale Village Institute to hear of plans to build affordable homes in the village for local people.

Last year’s Silverdale Local Housing Needs Survey revealed a need for at least 20 affordable homes. After looking at various options within the village, the Parish Council approached the owners of the Woodlands Hotel and a field adjoining the estate to agree to investigate the feasibility of building affordable homes of various sizes and tenures on some of the land. In addition a key element of the project will be to protect the existing pub. Other components could be new community facilities on the ground floor, new uses for the upper floor, refurbishments of other buildings on the site, renovating the original pleasure gardens, other public open space, community allotments, reviving the Woodlands Rural Centre and/or other outdoor activities.

Silverdale Parish Council and Lune Valley Community Land Trust are working with the landowners, Lancashire Rural Housing Enabler Service, Lancaster City Council’s housing strategy and local planning officers, and Arnside & Silverdale National Landscape Partnership. The Parish Council and the Land Trust have appointed Halsall Lloyd Partnership to produce a Masterplan which will look at all aspects of the site, consult with the community, and provide an outline of what is possible. This includes where the affordable homes could be situated, what kind and how many. One spot that may be suitable for houses is the land in front of the Woodies. The reason for the Masterplan is to iron out all these and other issues, e.g. access, infrastructure, capacity of land etc — so that we can get an idea of what is feasible. The Masterplan will be completed by the end of July.

New affordable homes resulting from this project will be on land owned by Lune Valley Community Land Trust so that they remain affordable for local people in perpetuity. Possible outcomes include that they will be managed by a housing association and made available to local people at a discounted price, for social rent, or for shared ownership. This mix, as well as the size and type of housing, will depend on the needs of the community, who are represented by a steering group of local residents and stakeholders, including future users of affordable housing. Six local people have volunteered to sit on the Steering Group and others would be welcome to join too.

Slides from the Public Meeting are available to download from the Silverdale Parish Council website: https://silverdale-pc-lancs.gov.uk/news/affordable-homes-in-silverdale Public consultation on the emerging Masterplan proposals will take place at the end of June, and another Public Meeting will be held at the Gaskell Hall (date TBC). WASTE FOOD COLLECTION
There has been some confusion about when the waste food collection starts. It appears every household now has been given a small and large grey bin for this, with liners. The waste food collection has started so please place your grey food bin out every week on Fridays. Thank you.

IMPORTANT: BEWARE OF BOGUS PARISH WEBSITE AND BUSINESS DIRECTORY
If you receive an invoice from [email protected] DO NOT RESPOND. This is a bogus organisation and is a quite sophisticated scam. The website www.silverdale1.parish.uk is NOT in any way connected to Silverdale Parish Council.

A Silverdale resident and businessman has received e-mails and an invoice from this email address under the name ‘Silverdale Parish’ asking for a renewal to an online business directory. The businessman thought that this related to his advert in the Silverdale St John’s Parish Magazine. He paid the sum requested but then did not see his advertisement included online.

Silverdale Parish Council has investigated this and has received the following response from its website administrator. “The parish.uk site has been around for a few years now, it came out of nowhere and has a page for what looks like every single parish in the UK, all looking terribly official - it is not a clone of your existing site, but does have a lot of the area/council information within (all publicly available info, nothing untoward or worrying at this stage) - the issue though is that the site then has a 'local directory' of business/shops/people in the area and will invoice these people to stay listed within this directory - the directory of course has no value, it's not anything to do with the parish council and doesn't purport to be - they make their money by emailing invoices for services you didn't know you were part of, then in a panic think you'll lose the access/page so pay the renewal.

“Nothing to do with the parish council, not a data breach, hacking or anything concerning your information, but the site itself does raise a few eyebrows. It was featured on a Radio 4 programme a few years ago, this was sent to me around the time:

"SCAM alert - on today’s Radio4 ‘You And Yours’ about a website “Parish. Uk “ - NOT legit! It’s asking local businesses nationally to pay £40 or be removed from Parish council local business directory (which of course doesn’t exist). highly sophisticated scam! Article about it starts at 29’20”: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001ljdx.”

PLEASE NOTE: Silverdale Parish Council’s official website is: www.silverdale-pc-lancs.gov.uk and the official village business directory is on the Silverdale Village website: www.silverdalelancashire.uk
