⚠️ Please stay safe around the water this summer. ⚠️
The recent hot weather has been amazing, but it has also brought a devastating reality to our communities. During this latest hot spell, 17 young people have needlessly lost their lives in cold water incidents.
It is incredibly easy to underestimate open water. Even when the air feels boiling hot, rivers, lakes, reservoirs, and quarries stay freezing cold.
When you jump in, your body can instantly go into Cold Water Shock. This causes an immediate gasp for air, meaning you inhale water straight into your lungs, making it impossible to swim. Below the surface, there are also hidden currents, sudden drops, and weeds that can trap even the strongest swimmers.
Enjoy the sunshine, but please look out for each other and make smart choices. A quick swim to cool off is never worth your life.
If you ever get into trouble in the water, remember: FLOAT TO LIVE.
Lean back, extend your arms and legs, gently move them to stay afloat, and control your breathing until help arrives.
Please share this post to help protect your friends and family. Let's make sure no more families have to go through this heartbreak.

A great morning for the team as we attended the Work Day event at James Rennie School

The children had the chance to meet a range of organisations including the police, fire service and ourselves, learning more about the important work each service carries out in the community.

There were plenty of smiles as many of the children dressed up and climbed aboard one of our rescue boats to have their photos taken — future rescuers in the making!

Yesterday the team were contacted by Cumbria Police and tasked to provide assistance to Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team in the search for a missing person in the Ullswater area.

The team was requested to focus on boat operations on the lake, with the team fielding 5 boats for the duration of the incident. We worked alongside Rescue 897 from Maritime and Coastguard Agency and several teams from Lake District Search And Mountain Rescue Association - LDSAMRA throughout the day to bring this incident to a close.

25 Team members were deployed for 12 hours.

We rely entirely on public support to keep doing what we do. Find out more or donate at: www.ncsar.uk
