What happens to something after we throw it "away"? 🌍

The truth is, there is no "away". Our waste goes somewhere, whether that's landfill, incineration, or the wider environment. Along the way, it can contribute to pollution, deplete valuable resources, and damage ecosystems.

Zero Waste Week, taking place from 7-11 September 2026, is a global campaign encouraging people to reduce waste through reusing, repairing, recycling, and repurposing.

Everyone should have access to affordable, sustainable ways to reduce waste. While individual actions matter, businesses and decision-makers must also play their part in creating lasting change.

♻️ This Second Hand September, choose pre-loved.

The clothes we buy have an impact long before they reach our wardrobes, affecting the environment and communities around the world. These impacts are not felt equally.

By buying second-hand, repairing what we already own and rewearing our favourite pieces, we can keep clothes in use for longer, reduce waste and lower demand for new clothing.

🧵 A simple repair could be all it takes to bring a much-loved item back into your wardrobe.

Race Equality First is carrying out research to understand why so few hate crimes lead to a prosecution and, in particular, we want to understand people’s experiences of reporting hate crime to the police in Wales.

To take part, you must have experienced a racially or religiously motivated hate crime in Wales since 2016 and reported the incident to the police in Wales.

It doesn’t matter if the police took no further action or your case didn’t go to court, but the police must have finished dealing with the case. We can’t include cases that are still being investigated or are still ongoing.

The interview is confidential and anonymous, takes around 30 minutes and can be done by phone or online. You’ll also receive £30 as a thank you for your time.

🌿 Meet Gwent Wildlife Trust one of our partners in Climate Justice Cymru.

For over 60 years, Gwent Wildlife Trust has been protecting wildlife and caring for natural spaces across Gwent in south-east Wales.

The Trust looks after more than 28 nature reserves covering 701 hectares, and they’re all free to visit. It also works with landowners and local communities to create bigger, better-connected spaces for nature.

This work is supported by more than 8,000 members and 200 volunteers, along with local groups taking action for wildlife in their communities.

Through Climate Justice Cymru, we’re looking forward to helping more communities connect with nature and discover practical ways to take climate action.

👋 Meet Faghia, Community Officer for Climate Justice Cymru.

Her love of nature started early, and now she wants more people to feel that same connection and to know that these spaces belong to them too.

For her, climate justice means making sure people who are most affected by climate change have a voice in the decisions that shape their lives.

She also believes in simple, practical action. One of her favourite habits is growing early and late flowering plants to help pollinators. You do not need a garden to try it. A window box works too.

Her favourite green space is Llanishen and Lisvane Reservoirs, saved from development thanks to years of community campaigning. It is a reminder that everyday people can protect the places they love.

“I would love to show people how easy and fun it can be to help the planet. Climate change can feel big and scary, but small, consistent changes can have a lasting impact.”

🌱 What gives you hope when you think about climate change?

Research from the Centre for Climate Change and Social Transformations (CAST) found that 59% of people from ethnic minority backgrounds believe their personal actions can help tackle climate change. The study also found that 44% feel quite or very hopeful when thinking about climate change.

These findings highlight that many people from ethnic minority communities care deeply about climate change and want to be part of the solution.

Climate justice means everyone should have a fair opportunity to take action. This includes making greener choices more affordable, accessible and practical for all.

Whether it's growing food, reducing waste, or choosing public transport, everyday actions can help create positive change.

Meet North Wales Wildlife Trust , one of our partners in Climate Justice Cymru. ☘

North Wales Wildlife Trust works with communities, volunteers and organisations to restore nature, protect wildlife and inspire people to take action for the environment.

The Trust manages more than 750 hectares of land across 35 nature reserves and beyond. It also works to protect the important coastal waters of North Wales.

As part of Climate Justice Cymru, they’ll be delivering a range of nature-based activities, helping communities connect with nature and learn more about biodiversity, conservation and climate action.

National Allotments Week takes place from 10 to 16 August, and this year’s theme is “Grow to Learn”.🫜

When we visited Leckwith Allotments, we saw that these spaces are about more than growing food. People come together to learn new skills, spend time outdoors, and connect with others.

Community growing also supports climate justice. Not everyone has equal access to fresh food, green spaces, or opportunities to take climate action. Allotments can help change that. They bring people together and make climate action more accessible.

Whether you’re learning to grow your own food or simply enjoying time in nature, there’s always something to discover.
