Heading to an open farm this weekend? 🐑

Germs like Cryptosporidium can spread easily through contact with animals – especially for children.

Here’s how to stay safe and prevent illness:
🚫 No cuddles, kisses or close contact with lambs or calves
🧼 Wash hands well with hot water and soap, not hand sanitiser
👀 Look out for handwashing signs and stations
👚 Wash clothes as soon as you get home

Introducing , a new series celebrating the people behind Public Health Wales and what they do outside of work!

With it being Volunteers' Week, we're kicking things off with Matt, our Leadership and Organisational Development Manager, who also volunteers as a HM Coastguard Rescue Officer. 🌊🚨

Matt's been with the Coastguard for five years, and has always admired people who gave their time to help others in need.

Despite witnessing some tragedies, he says the positive outcomes outweigh those moments.

"It really opens your eyes to what lengths people will go to help others, even if it is at 2am during a storm. There is no feeling like saving a life and for that I'm very honoured to do what I do."

And what gives him the greatest satisfaction? ✨👇

"Helping people in need, saving another person's life, and giving my little boy something to be proud of his dad for."

We're proud to have Matt as part of Team PHW! ❤️

Young adults most at risk from unhealthy food environments.

Young adults eat takeaways, ready meals and at cafés and restaurants more than any other age group, according to our new study.

A Time to Talk Public Health survey by Public Health Wales found 26 per cent of young adults (aged 16 to 29) ate a takeaway on two or more days in the last week, compared to 18 per cent of 30 to 49 year olds, 8 per cent of 50 to 69 year olds, and 2 per cent of those aged 70 years and over.

Isobel completed her bowel screening kit without a second thought. 💌

She’d taken part in bowel screening before and never had a problem, and when she noticed occasional bleeding, she put it down to something she’d experienced previously.

After completing her latest test, she was contacted for further investigation. 🩺

Isobel's journey included multiple procedures and surgery to remove a large polyp.

Thankfully, it wasn’t cancer, but it was very close. ❤️
