Our latest read at Home Ed Readers was a huge hit. A Box full of Murders by Janice Hallett was a very different read but thoroughly enjoyed.

We all loved the mystery and the narrative style, something we have not come across before.

One thing we all agreed on was the mystery was engaging and the layout created good pacing.

Will we be reading the next installment? I think so!

Today's meetup showed me how important stories really are.

A story about two sisters navigating wild territory sparked conversations about sharing our worries, making a worry box, learning that other people's reactions are out of our control, and how we should always move with kindness.

This is why we meet, why we read together. We share and discuss, we learn and expand our ideas.

Fiction is not only fun, fiction helps shape our real lives.

These kids are fantastic and I absolutely love this little club of ours.

Big thank you to everyone in Sturry Canterbury Libraries. Without you guys this really wouldn't have been possible.

Can't wait to get stuck into our next read 🙏

Another reading club session today. We are currently reading Wildlands by Brogen Murphy. This is a bit of a chunky book so we have spread it across 2 months. Today's discussion was lively and wonderful.
It's great to hear the children loving these adventure stories and really start to dig deeper into the writing itself.

Our tenth and last session of 2025 🫣

I absolutely love our sessions and it's been such a pleasure watching the children grow and become more confident discussing books.

Our last book, The Night Animals by Sarah Ann Juckes was a really fascinating read, touching on the impacts of mental health conditions, specifically PTSD. What I found really promising was how well the children responded to the content, and how important discussing mental health and well being is within children's literature.

If we want our children to grow up with a deeper understanding, and a more compassionate mindset towards others and themselves then what a great avenue to use.

What was also lovely was to hear the children share their own stories and experiences. This is how we spread kindness, by giving them a safe environment to be seen and to feel safe, children and adults!!

Needless to say I am loving this space and can't wait for 2026 !!!

Our next read is a festive one, because of course ... IT'S CHRISTMAS 🎄
