We still need signatures on this petition for the highest-paid at Kent to take a 20% pay cut! The huge disparity in pay here is already damning, but it becomes even worse when you know the extortionate pay packets at the top are being delivered out of our tuition fees and made at the expense of hundreds of jobs, to the detriment of the uni and students’ education. Greetings! You might have noticed that we quietened down after the conclusion of the strikes and the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, the latter of which impacted our ability to deliver strike events. However, with the heartbreaking and infuriating news that the University of Kent is proceeding with compulsory redundancies that will affect upwards of 150 full-time workers - on account of its own management’s mishandling of finances, and inflating their pay at the expense of casualised workers - it is clear that the issues of the neoliberal university still exist and have real ramifications long after the close of strikes. Precaricubs has formed for students who believe that passivity is not a viable option, and who want to fight for our university and wider world to be free of exploitation and injustice.

Below is our statement expanding further on how we intend to go ahead as a group in 2020/21. We’d be grateful for your engagement and support as we get off the ground!
