Cambridge City Council have a policy to build as many sustainable homes, with the lowest rent for residents that we can. At a recent planning committee, they submitted an application to demolish 162 homes, and three grade A London planes, on an old council estate. The plans submitted were to replace them with 192 homes for private sale (despite having promised council tenants they had the right of return).
This has become a matter of public concern and labour are saying ‘we will not build out this site without affordable homes.’
The planning committee spent 4 ½,hours in sweltering heat discussing this. No one told us that this would not go ahead without affordable homes.
Why would Labour submitted this application with any intention of building it? Labour say that they will not sell the land to private developers.
Apparently the plan is that now they have permission they will submit an application to ‘Homes for England Money,’ for the money to build 'affordable homes.'
This is such a weird way of going about such an important matter. I wonder how this process holds up against the Nolan Principles? See less

The restriction on Mill Rd has been a huge success for traders and residents.
A few people are upset about this but it’s impossible to please everyone. In the consultations they numbered about 17%. So potentially 83% of people are happy.

Some traders are against the restrictions, but more are unconcerned.

Some have a romantic vision of what Mill Rd is; it’s changed from earlier times and now provides a majority of cafes (52), food outlets (15), hairdressers (17), estate agents (7), places is worship (6), charity shops (7) and bike shops (5).
We now need to pay attention to the infrastructure and I am constructing a list of ideas. Why not get in touch if you have some?

We rarely see the fire service doing their job, but today was different for residents in Stourbridge Grove.
Today rescued three people trapped in a house fire and then contained the fire, stopping it from spreading.
I have been to Cambridge Fire Station to ask for the thanks of the people of Romsey to be passed onto those that carried out such stirling work. And I will write to their Chief Officer in similar fashion.

At tonights Cambridge City Councilcabinet meeting,
voted to re-open the toilets on Parker’s Piece and Quayside (Market Ward).
In response, Cambridge Green Party Cllr for Petersfield, Kathryn Fisher, asked for Mill Rd toilets to be re-opened. I supported Kathryn.
We argued that Mill Rd is a growing and vibrant high street with 152 shops and that the traders feel they are being ignored.
Cllr Martin Smart's response was that re-opening the toilets on Mill Rd is not currently being considered. Well Martin, its time it was, because Mill Road is fast becoming a vibrant day and night time economy and needs a toilet!

Hanover and Princess Court.
At the planning committee on 24-6-2026, a plan was approved to demolish 127 now dilapidated and structurally unsound homes, with 162 high-quality homes for private sale.
The decision to develop this premier site in the city centre that started life as 100% council homes for private sale, is more complicated than it appears. Nonetheless, as it stands, there is no affordable content (let alone council housing).
As a Yourparty Romsey councillor, I am taking steps to prevent this happening.
Cambridge City Council owned sites, should not be sold for private ownership.

Your Party is on track

YP conference turned into major success as the delegates wrested control from the bureaucrats, to steer YP back on track.
We are now designated as a working class, socialist party, with solid priorities for equality, fairness and peace. Control is centred on branches, who will have budgets and should be looking to run candidates in May.
Zarah was on fire. Spelling out her agendas to an almost constant standing ovation.
