What would you do if a foreign military knocked down your door, beat up your mother, imprisoned your father, & stole your house? What would you do if you were told for the rest of your life you would have to live in a cage, besieged? on 75yrs of violence & oppression:

Join Anthony Carpen - Historian and me Isabel Lambourne- one of the founders of Friends of Castle Mound, at Cambridge central library, talking about this site as a place of community
More than 3,000 people from Cambridgeshire signed the first petition calling to keep the site in Council ownership. Now the County Council have opted for a 40 year lease to Brookgate - who have demolished other historical and beautiful Cambridge buildings. During this time, untold changes and destru...

Shire Hall, a beautiful and historic example of 1930s style and detailing, however, is not a listed building. The existing architecture should be preserved. I am particularly concerned about the windows

Deep disappointment that although the Shire Hall site remains technically in Council ownership for now, it will be leased out on 40 year lease.
Move shows disrespect for heritage of the site and value it holds to community as a council building.
This means we will not retain Shire Hall use as registry office, for other services or for public council meetings.
It is a very large site and could have provided in different sections: shelter for rough sleepers, affordable business space for start ups and a centre to celebrate and inform on local history.
These are only a few ideas and all your suggestions are welcome. Please email them to me and also send them to Steve Count, head of to the County Council.
The weak and short sighted vision of County Council leadership like that of the Conservative central government brings again impoverishment of our society and local community.
I will do all in my power to rebel and change this and ask you if you want to please do the same.

The society was founded with the purpose of registering Castle Mound as a Town Green. This would allow the public to have free access for lawful sport and pastimes in perpetuity.
Our rights lost
Cambridgeshire County Council is moving its offices from Shire Hall and is selling a long lease on the whole site, including Castle Mound, to private developers.
The County Council has lodged a ‘landlord’s deposit’ under the Highways and Commons Act. This will deny future public access, guaranteed in law, to the entire site, including The Mound and grassed areas.
We need to object
As residents we have a short time to register our historic rights by applying to make the Mound and the surrounding spaces a ‘Town Green’. Only this this will guarantee public access for now and future generations of our City
2. Join us, we need all the help we can to deliver leaflets and campaign. Contact the Secretary at [email protected]
3. Send us your memories. To make a claim for a Town Green we need evidence to show that citizens have used the mound without permission for more than 20 years. Send us your stories, photographs, newspaper clippings
4. If you would like to, please donate to the society to fund leaflets promoting public awareness of the campaign. Details of how to do this will be published.
