🌾 National Rural Crime Action Week: Rural Voices and Police Reform

Today’s theme is about listening to rural communities and ensuring policing continues to develop around the challenges they face.

Cambridgeshire Police’s Rural Crime Action Team works closely with farmers, landowners, rural businesses and residents to understand local concerns, improve our response and target the issues causing the greatest harm. We work closely with Cambridgeshire Countryside Watch, NFU - National Farmers' Union, and the The CLA to name few.

Rural communities are often the first to notice changing crime trends, suspicious activity and emerging problems. By reporting incidents and sharing information, you help us build a clearer intelligence picture and shape how we patrol, prevent crime and support our countryside.

Police reform is not just about changing structures. It is about listening, learning and improving the service we provide.

🌾 National Rural Crime Action Week: Local Teams, Local Knowledge

Today’s theme is Local Rural Crime Teams and Community Confidence.

Cambridgeshire Police’s Rural Crime Action Team works across the county, using specialist knowledge and information from farmers, landowners, businesses and residents to help prevent crime, identify offenders and protect rural communities.

Our officers carry out intelligence-led patrols, provide crime prevention advice and work with neighbouring police forces and partner organisations to tackle offenders operating across county borders.

A visible and approachable rural crime team helps build confidence, but we cannot do it alone. Reports from the public help us understand what is happening, identify emerging problems and target our resources effectively.

Rural crime is not always opportunistic or low-level. Organised criminals often travel across county borders, targeting agricultural machinery, GPS equipment, vehicles and isolated rural businesses.

Throughout National Rural Crime Week, Cambridgeshire Police’s Rural Crime Action Team is highlighting how intelligence-led policing, specialist operations and partnership working are used to identify offenders, recover stolen property and disrupt the criminal networks operating in our countryside.

Criminals do not recognise county borders, so neither does our response.

If you see suspicious activity, report it. Your information could provide the missing piece needed to disrupt serious and organised crime.

🌾 Welcome to National Rural Crime Action Week

This week, Cambridgeshire Police’s Rural Crime Action Team (RCAT) will be highlighting the crimes affecting our countryside and the work being done to protect rural communities, businesses, and livelihoods.

Rural crime is not always visible, but its impact can be significant. That is why our specialist officers work alongside communities, neighbouring police forces and partner agencies to prevent crime, develop intelligence and target offenders.

Follow us throughout the week for operational updates, prevention advice and an insight into rural policing across Cambridgeshire.

Congratulations to the ten men and women who officially became police community support officers (PCSOs) today. 👮👏

Having previously worked in a range of roles including in the NHS, Network Rail, or as a tutor, these individuals are ready to get involved in listening to your concerns and keeping our communities safe.

They were presented with their “designation cards” by Deputy Chief Constable Chris Balmer at a ceremony at force HQ this afternoon and will shortly be joining our neighbourhood teams across the county.

Andrew Lakeman used his position as a content developer for a Cambridge gaming company to access high value customer accounts and steal their “game wealth,” which he sold for more than £300,000 on the black market.

He was sentenced at Cambridge Crown Court yesterday after what the lead officer described as "an unusual and lengthy investigation."

🏍️🚓 Three stolen motorcycles recovered, three delighted owners!

Within just 12 hours of being reported stolen, our Rural Crime Action Team located three stolen motorcycles hidden in a wooded area near Cambridge.

Two of the bikes belonged to visitors who were touring the area and had already started making arrangements to fly home after their motorcycles were taken.

Thankfully, before those plans became reality, officers were able to make the call every victim hopes for and reunite them with their bikes.

A fantastic result by the team and a reminder that reports from the public, combined with proactive policing, can make all the difference.
