If you're frustrated with the throw away society that surrounds us and want to support the right to repair, you'll also be happy to know that there is a network of Repair Cafes in Cambridge thanks to Cambridge Carbon Footprint

In 2013 there wasn't a single Repair Cafe in Cambridgeshire. Next week alone, there are 5!!!
Change can happen, and fast.
Huge thanks to our funders and to the hundreds of volunteer organisers and repairers who offer their time and skills for free to help our communities save money, the items they love, waste from landfill and greenhouse emissions.
We're excited for The Polar Museum, Scott Polar Research Institute's first Cafe next Saturday that'll highlight some of the incredible repair stories in their collection, including that of Captain Scott's men mending their clothes in Antarctica over a hundred years ago!

As Let's Run Girls celebrates 10 years they're still growing and offering training not just for running, but for walking and walk leaders.

What a wonderful Sunday morning we had celebrating 10 years since our very first Let's Run Girls session on Jesus Green back in July 2016.

We thought it might last 10 weeks....and here we are, a decade later having met hundreds (maybe thousands!) of incredible women who have chosen to share the miles with us over the years.

❤️ Thank you to the community of women who have allowed Let's Run Girls to grow in the way it has over the last 10 years.

❤️ Thank you to all our volunteer Run Leaders who turn up come rain or shine every week. Without you, there is no LRG.

❤️ And thank you to all the partners and kids at home who respect the importance "run group" has in the diary for our ladies....it is not only exercise, it is social connection, free therapy, destressing, friendship, laughs, sweat, tears and so much more.

We are excited to see what the next ten years brings!

With hot weather forecast this week, an amber heat health alert will be in place across the East of England until 9pm on Friday 14 August. ☀️

While we hope people enjoy the warm weather, please remember to do so safely and look out for others who may be at a higher risk of becoming unwell.

If you have to go outside, seek shade at the hottest time of the day (between 11am and 3pm), wear sunscreen, a hat and light clothes, drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, and avoid exercise or activity that makes you hotter.

Some people may struggle to stay cool in the hot weather so please check on elderly friends, neighbours and family members – or anyone you know who may be vulnerable.

We were really pleased to support a grant application from Barry to get some plants and planters in at Crossways, a facility run by It Takes A City that normally only houses people over the winter, but with a change of circumstances, they have access year round now.

This meant that longer projects could be started with the residents, including planting seeds and watching them grow and getting to be there long enough to be part of the whole cycle and enjoy the fruits of their labour. A hopeful project run by a very hopeful and optimistic team. Barry has plenty more ideas including art and creativity (we were impressed with his own art exhibition he'd installed on the wall!) and we look forward to continuing working with him to make them happen.

The Summer Shindig is a great example of how to organise a FREE community festival. It was accessible, it had lots of space, it had fun and games, it had free facepainting, it had great food and drink, and it had a brilliant selection of bands and performers throughout the day. The musical entertainment covered a wide range of genres and instruments and dance and was really uplifting and fun.

Thank you to Mill Road Winter Fair team and Love Mill Road for having us there, the Public Living Room morphed into yet another space, this time one where the music could be enjoyed - and shade was found for very young attendees!

We recently co-hosted a Public Living Room with St Paul's Church on Hill's Road and it was a great day. The conversation varied from movie theme tunes, to Spain in the cup final, to the rules of Dobble and if younger people are better at it or not (quicker reflexes?)

Coming together with strangers can be just what's needed, especially in a time where division is pushed. Deciding which is the best biscuit can also be divisive but Camerados is about learning how to disagree respectfully.

Oh, and I think we won at having the world's smallest ping pong table - you could barely get it over the net, but it was fun trying!!
