*In Memory of Dave Cook*
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of former Senior Lifeguard Dave Cook, who served in Swanage and was a much-valued member of the RNLI lifeguard family.
Dave was a dedicated lifeguard, accomplished sportsman, and a familiar and respected figure within the local surfing community. His passion for the ocean shaped much of his life and inspired many who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him.
Among his many achievements, Dave became the first Briton to complete the Texan Challenge in South Africa in 1983, an extraordinary 244km endurance paddling event. Of the three British competitors who took part, Dave was the only one to finish, placing an impressive 23rd out of 122 finishers. It was a remarkable accomplishment that reflected the determination, resilience, and adventurous spirit for which he was known.
Dave also competed in Surf Lifesaving Championships, representing Portreath Surf Life Saving Club in the UK and competing internationally on Australia’s Gold Coast, proudly representing the sport and community he loved.
Whilst his achievements were exceptional, those who knew Dave will remember him for much more than his accomplishments. He was a respected lifeguard, surfer, teammate and friend whose love of the sea, commitment to lifesaving, and connection with others left a lasting impression on all who crossed his path.
Our thoughts are with Dave’s wife, family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched through surfing, lifesaving and friendship.
Rest in peace, Dave.
