It’s Day 2 of Neighbourhood Policing Week and today we are with PC TEMBY Neighbourhood Beat Manager (NBM) for Redruth.

“Hi I’m PC Temby, I’m the Neighbourhood Beat Manager for Redruth. A little about me, I started my policing career in 2009 joining the Metropolitan Police, before coming back home to Cornwall.

I’m grew up in Redruth and so going full circle serving my local community is something I take great pride in. I have been an NBM for 5 years, firstly covering Redruth before moving across to Illogan for 12 months to assist colleagues. I’m happy to say I am now back to being a Redruth NBM picking up where I left off.

Today will give you an insight into some of the lesser-known aspects of the work NBM’s undertake.”

NEIGHBOURHOOD WEEK 2026 - PC JAMES TOMPSON - UPDATE OF HIS DAY

👮🏽 I started my day with a school patrol in Camborne, spending time chatting with parents and pupils as they arrived for the school day. These conversations are a great opportunity to build relationships and maintain a visible police presence within the community.

🍺 From there, I was in the town on foot checking in with local businesses. A key part of my day is building strong relationships with shop owners, staff and residents, ensuring they know who their local officers are and how to contact us if they need support. During patrol, I dealt with several incidents of anti-social behaviour. This remains one of the biggest demands on neighbourhood policing and often involves dealing with confrontational groups causing issues through alcohol-related disorder, abusive language and nuisance behaviour. As a result, a quantity of alcohol was seized and a number of individuals were dispersed from the area.

🛒 After lunch, I attended our community drop-in session at Tesco for a couple of hours. These events are a fantastic way to meet local people, listen to concerns and gather information about issues affecting the community. The intelligence we receive from residents and businesses plays a vital role in helping us tackle crime and anti-social behaviour.

🛍️ Whilst at the drop-in session, I detained a female suspected of shoplifting. Further enquiries resulted in suspected controlled drugs being found in her possession, and she was also wanted in connection with an unrelated shoplifting investigation.

👉🏼 Later in the afternoon, I spent time with a victim of crime following an incident I attended last week. This remains a significant safeguarding concern, and a large part of modern policing involves working alongside partner agencies to protect vulnerable people and ensure they receive the support they need. Although this work often happens behind the scenes, it is one of the most important aspects of the role.

Although I work within the Neighbourhood Policing Team, we remain available to respond to incidents when required, this will take a priority to most of my other commitments.
During the afternoon I attended a serious assault in the town. With assistance from members of the public and local store staff, we were able to identify a suspect who had left the scene prior to police arrival. Enquiries are ongoing as part of a live investigation.

The final part of my day was spent completing the less visible side of policing – submitting intelligence I’d gathered, recording crimes, processing evidence and carrying out enquiries relating to incidents dealt with throughout the day.

It was another busy and varied day, highlighting just how diverse neighbourhood policing can be. As Camborne's Neighbourhood Beat Manager, I'm proud to work alongside our communities, businesses and partner agencies to help keep the town safe and make a positive difference where it matters most. 🚓😊

🚨 Neighbourhood Policing Week 🚨

This week, we’re proud to celebrate Neighbourhood Policing Week — a chance to highlight the vital work our neighbourhood officers do every single day to keep our communities safe, connected, and supported.

👮🏿‍♀️Work with partners to support vulnerable people
🚓 Patrol on foot, bike and in vehicles to stay visible and approachable
👮‍♀️ Provide reassurance, advice and crime prevention support....This list is not exhaustive!

Throughout the week, we’ll be sharing a behind-the-scenes look at the work our teams carry out, so you can see first-hand how they make a difference in your area.

Keep a look out for the following dates:
Monday - PC TOMPSON
Tuesday - PC TEMBY
Wednesday - PC GRIFFITHS
Thursday - PCSO SYMONS
Friday - PC CARE & PC ANDERSON
Saturday - PS McKINNON

💬 We also want to hear from you! If you see our officers out and about, stop for a chat, ask questions, and let us know what matters most in your community.
Together, we can build safer, stronger neighbourhoods. 💙

** Incident Update **

On Friday 4th June officers on foot patrol in Redruth were alerted to a drunken male who was causing alarm to members of the public due to his behaviour.

Thankfully, he was located, alcohol seized and arrested by PC Temby.

We would like to thank members of the public for alerting police to this unacceptable behaviour.

Parts of Redruth fall under a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO.) PSPOs can be used to restrict alcohol consumption in public areas associated with anti-social behaviour.

🚨 Drunken behaviour in public will not be tolerated. 🚨

Our last post with a map of some foot patrol and seizing some cannabis has generated quite a lot of discussion.

❓ What do you want, a medal?

Definitely not, we don't update Facebook for validation. It's one of many tools we use to show what we are doing in the community as lots of people are interested.

❓Why did you walk the same way there and back to Camborne Park?

Quite simply, ease to get back into town and make sure the group fighting hadn't reconvened.

❓Did you get paid to do any work on your walk or were you just enjoying the sun?

My team is paid to be visible in the community to prevent crime and ASB. We will deal with what we come across in that time. Sadly it wasn't sunny either!

👉🏼 For those of you that are interested in what we do....

It's Neighbourhood Policing week from 15th June.

👮🏿‍♀️ 👮🏻 Each day next week, one of the neighbourhood team will introduce themselves on Facebook and talk about their plans for the day. They will then update with what they did throughout their shift. It will be an opportunity to understand our role in the community and the type of work we do.

Thank you for your support.

PCSO Matthews and PS McKinnon have been out on foot patrol in Camborne on this drizzly Sunday evening 🌦️

There have been reports of ASB in Camborne Park but it was pretty empty today. A good start.

We headed into town and to the bus stop, just in time to stop a fight between a few men. All sent on their way before injuries incurred.

On the way back to the station a waft of cannabis drew attention to a parked vehicle. PS McKinnon conducted searches of the occupants and vehicle, and seized some cannabis.
