A new Vehicle Activated Speed (VAS) sign has been installed on Eastern Lane following concerns raised by local residents that this was a particular hotspot for speeding.

Recognising the importance of responding to these concerns, Camborne Town Council and Cornwall Council have worked together to deliver the installation, with Cllr White and Cllr Ball both involved in progressing the project. In this video, Cllr Ball can be heard speaking about the importance of this initiative.

The VAS sign displays the speed of vehicles as they pass, providing drivers with an immediate reminder of their speed and encouraging them to slow down. The sign will also collect data on vehicle speeds. If the data indicates that further action may be required, it can be shared with Devon and Cornwall Police to support consideration of enforcement in the area.

Camborne Town Council will continue to work with Cornwall Council to identify further locations around the town where VAS signs could help address speeding concerns and improve community safety.

Camborne Wesley Methodist Church's Weeknight Youth Group meets every Wednesday between 7.30PM and 9PM at the The Wesley Centre.

The group is open to those aged between 11 and 18 years old.

Local organisations are invited to apply for funding through the Street Focus Youth Programme, supported by the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) and administered through the Safer Camborne and Redruth Partnership.

The fund supports early intervention, diversionary activities, and outreach services for young people who may be at risk of anti-social behaviour (ASB) or offending. We are particularly keen to support projects that are youth-led, community-informed, and designed around local needs.

Projects should demonstrate how they will help ensure that:
"Young people are supported, safeguarded, and diverted from involvement in anti-social behaviour and crime."

Applications are encouraged from community groups, charities, youth organisations, sports clubs, and other voluntary sector organisations working in Camborne and Redruth.

Priority will be given to projects that:
- Address anti-social behaviour, community safety, or diversionary activity
- Engage young people at risk of ASB or offending
- Support young people facing vulnerabilities such as trauma, exclusion, SEND, or - mental health challenges
- Work with young people in areas of deprivation
- Include youth voice, co-design, or community involvement
- Deliver clear, measurable outcomes

💷 Maximum grant available: £3,000 per project

The Town Centre fountain has been temporarily drained following continued incidents of vandalism, tampering and misuse.

These incidents have resulted in the need for ongoing cleaning, maintenance and repairs, leading to significant ongoing costs. Unfortunately, this level of expenditure is not sustainable in the long term.

The Council is now exploring alternative solutions to enable the continuing operation of the fountain, whilst preventing ongoing instances of interference and vandalism, with further updates when more information is available.
