Here is one of the original World Cup Wi***es the first mascot for the 1966 FIFA world cup held in England. Willie was a lion wearing a union Jack Jersey designed to promote the tournament and became a cultural icon. The character was in fact so popular it set the standard for future world mascots even Juanti for mexica in the 1970's. |This year marks 60 years since England won the world cup - who knows maybe he will able to bring us victory once again! What a fantastic evening we had celebrating the 90th birthday of Surrey Heath Museum!

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us to mark this special milestone. More than 70 guests raised a glass of bubbles to celebrate nine decades of preserving and sharing our local history, making it a truly memorable occasion.

And, in true birthday party style, nobody went home empty-handed as everyone enjoyed a slice of birthday cake!

Thank you for being part of our story.

Two very different conservation projects today. We have a copy of Thomas Gainsborough’s, Mrs. Siddons, on display. It was found in Camberley Theatre in a cavity of a wall. Our wonderful volunteer Luciano Cassaro is repairing the gilt frame. The other is the cover of a 90cm long taxidermy Pike, caught locally in 1899 by Thomas Morris. Skillfully repaired by our Chairman of Trustees, Bernard Baverstock. The longest Pike ever caught in UK was 115 cm long, so Thomas didnt do too badly 127 years ago!
