The British Army’s Leadership Framework provides the structure around which all Army leadership philosophies, doctrine and principles are structured. Our definition: ‘A combination of character, knowledge and action that inspires others to succeed’, provides the Army with this framework based on: What Leaders ARE (their character), What Leaders KNOW (their knowledge), and What Leaders DO (their action).

What Army Leaders Are:
✅Values-based
✅Custodians of the highest standards
✅Exemplars of exceptional behaviours

What Army Leaders Know:
✅Themselves
✅Their people
✅Their profession

What Army Leaders Do:
✅Develop themselves & others
✅Build effective teams
✅Achieve the task

Happy St George’s Day

As we celebrate St George's Day, we reflect on its significance to the British Army - a celebration of the legend of a brave soldier who embodied the essence of honour and sacrifice. St George, known as a military saint and patron of soldiers, symbolises the values we strive to uphold in the Army, and that units such as exemplify daily. From his legendary battles against the dragon to his selfless commitment to duty. St George's legacy inspires us to lead with courage and determination. As stated in the Army Leadership Doctrine, 'Leadership is the ability to inspire and guide others towards a common purpose.' on this day we reaffirm our commitment to embodying these principles.

Happy St George's Day!

✅ We discuss how the CAL are developing the concepts and theory of leadership into tools that the Army can use.

✅ He focusses on the importance of understanding your people, and how by taking a human-centred approach to leadership enhances unit and team cohesion, as well as drawing upon the strengths of each individual to achieve greater operational outputs.

✅ We also discuss the role of unit identity and the importance of creating the feelings of belonging to forge a cohesive team.

✅Underpinning all of this was understanding the role that empathy plays, firstly by reflecting on examples of where he had been led poorly and being able to evaluate that to shape how he would lead when he was given that responsibility.
