There are only a few days left to experience the Woodland Garden before it closes for the season on Sunday 7th June.

At this time of year, the garden feels wonderfully immersive. Rhododendrons and azaleas filling the landscape with colour, soft fragrance drifting through the trees and winding paths inviting slower moments beneath the canopy🌺🌸

It is also one of the loveliest places on the Estate to explore with your dog, with peaceful walks and open spaces to enjoy together.

For a few weeks each year, this hidden part of Bowood opens to visitors before quietly retreating once again until next spring.

If a Woodland Garden visit has been on your list this season, now is the time to wander its paths before the gates close.

Look upwards as you enter the Orangery and you’ll find one of Bowood’s most striking hidden details.

In this month’s Object of the Month, Dr Lizzie Rogers explores Miraculous Draught of the Fishes, a late eighteenth century stained-glass work by Eglington Margaret Pearson, inspired by Raphael’s celebrated Renaissance design.

As sunlight passes through the glass, vivid colours and intricate detail begin to emerge, transforming the entrance into something almost theatrical. The scene captures the biblical story of Jesus calling Peter and Andrew to cast their nets once more, leading to an extraordinary catch of fish.

Positioned within Robert Adam’s grand archway, it is a work designed not only to be seen, but experienced through movement, colour and changing light.

The forecast for Friday? Sunshine, Water Play and very happy children. ☀️💦 Who needs the seaside when the children can cool off at Bowood House & Gardens instead?

With hot weather expected this Friday onwards, the new Water Play feature at Bowood House & Gardens may become one of the most popular spots on the Estate.

The Adventure Playground, gardens, space to explore and somewhere to cool off afterwards. That sounds like half term plans sorted to us!

With the RHS Chelsea Flower Show beginning this week, gardens will once again take centre stage.

At Bowood Hosue & Gardens, the Walled Garden and Terrace Gardens are shaped through colour, atmosphere and perspective. Layered planting, long pathways, formal structure and quieter corners that reveal themselves differently as you move through the grounds.

Some gardens captivate through scale. Others through feeling. The rhythm of repeated planting, borders overflowing with colour and spaces shaped with patience and care over time.

Whether you visit for inspiration, a quieter afternoon outdoors or simply to experience the atmosphere of the gardens for yourself, Bowood offers something different each time you return.
