Ahead of next week's Dogs with Jobs event, here's a bit about the four-legged side of our team.

Search dogs are a vital part of what we do. With their remarkable sense of smell, they can search large or difficult areas far more quickly than a team on foot could manage, helping us find missing people in all sorts of conditions.

Bowie will be joining Amanda at Dogs with Jobs on Friday 5 June to show what these dogs can do — come along and say hello.

Part of the Glasgow Science Festival. It's free, and you can find details here:

The hardest job on the team? Lying down.

Meet Paul, who took one for the team during a recent training session.

Training our search dogs to find missing people means giving them missing people to find, and that's where Paul comes in. He spent a good chunk of the session tucked into the undergrowth, doing his very best impression of someone in need of rescuing.

The good news: the dogs found him. The slightly less good news: he then had to do it all again. And again.

It's not glamorous, and there were almost certainly nettles involved, but this is exactly how our dogs learn to find people hidden in thick cover and difficult terrain. So next time you see a search dog at work, spare a thought for the Pauls of this world, quietly lying in the bushes for the cause.

Thanks Paul, top hiding.

On Sunday, we were at Dunblane Bowling Club to run a session on CPR and defibrillator use for members of the club and the local community.

Martin (pictured) took the group through the essentials, from chest compressions to using a defibrillator, with plenty of time for questions along the way.

It's always good to see people keen to learn skills that could one day help save a life, and the feedback was lovely:

"𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐟𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜. 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐰𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐥. 𝐈𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐚 𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐫."

"𝐕𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝. 𝐈 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐲 𝐂𝐏𝐑 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐚 𝐝𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫."

A big thank you to everyone who came along, and to Dunblane Bowling Club for having us.

If your club, group or workplace would like to arrange a session, get in touch.

We're pleased to be part of this year's Glasgow Science Festival.

We'll be taking part in Dogs with Jobs. From assistance dogs to sniffer dogs, working canines use science every day. Meet real-life furry professionals and uncover how training, behaviour and biology help them excel, with speakers and dogs from the University of Glasgow, Guide Dog Scotland, Therapy Dogs Nationwide and Trossachs Search and Rescue.

Our very own Amanda will be there with search dog Bowie to share a bit about the part search dogs play in what we do.

Where have we been this week?

This week, members of the Trossachs Search and Rescue team visited the P4 class at Killearn Primary School to teach the pupils what to do in a range of emergency situations.

The children learned how to put someone into the recovery position, the basics of CPR, how to use a defibrillator, and what to do if someone is choking.

It's never too early to learn these skills, and the team were impressed by how much the class took on board on the day.

A big thank you to the staff and pupils at Killean Primary School for having us.

One of our team members has been busy putting together handmade doggy treat bags, which will be available to purchase at events the team attends throughout the year.

It's a great way to support the team while picking up something for your four-legged friend. Keep an eye on this page for upcoming event dates.

The Trossachs Search and Rescue dog team have been out training last week, making use of the grounds at The Pineapple near Airth.

Regular training sessions like these are an essential part of keeping our dog teams ready to respond when called upon.

More training updates to follow in the coming weeks.
