The Giant's Causeway

The Giant's Causeway National Trust is a charity caring for Special Places, For Ever, For Everyone. Come and walk in the footsteps of Giants.

The unique geology of the Giant's Causeway makes it a UNESCO World Heritage site and Northern Ireland's most popular tourist attraction. Nearly 40,000 polygonal basalt columns packed closely together form a pathway of stepping stones stretching out to sea. The columns were formed by the cooling and shrinking of molten lava from a volcanic eruption over 60 million years ago. But the unique nature o

f the Causeway has fuelled the imagination of locals and visitors for centuries. Legend tells us the Giant Finn McCool created the Causeway as a challenge to his Scottish rival, Benandonner. Come and find out more by exploring our new visitors centre and having your own adventure. Come and find Finn's boot, abandoned on the shore. See his
chimney stacks reach into the sky. And don't forget to make a wish at the Wishing Chair...

🫶 Celebrating GIANT contributions to Volunteering

Earlier this week, Retail Volunteer, Shaun and Visitor Experience Volunteer, Andy received their Empowering People in Communities (EPIC) Awards at Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s Volunteer’s Week celebration!🥳

In just over a year, Shaun has become an invaluable part of the Retail team at the Giant’s Causeway, while Andy’s legendary volunteering journey spans across multiple National Trust NI sites, from visitor welcomes, to walking groups and events!

Both were recognised for contributing over 100 hours of volunteering in the past year!👏

EPIC Awards are a brilliant way of showing a little bit of extra appreciation to our volunteers, who give so much to the organisation. Without them, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do💚

Massive well done to Shaun and Andy, and to all of our volunteers for their dedication and hard work each day😊

From friendly welcomes, essential maintenance, to event support, gardening and everything you do behind the scenes, your time, energy and enthusiasm make a real difference every single day - we couldn’t do what we do without you🫶

We’re grateful to have you all as part of the North Coast family🥰

POV - The sun’s out, the BBQ is on and your favourite book is hand…does it get any better than this😍

GC Book Clubbers are meeting for their final spring session this Thursday, 28 May at 7:30pm in the Causeway Hotel to discuss May’s read, Kasou Ishiguro’s, ‘Klara and the Sun’ - very fitting for the temps at the moment☀️

Whether you’re a regular attender, or you’d like to join for the first time, you’re more than welcome! It’s really the perfect excuse to wind down with a few fellow bookworms over a scone and a cuppa🫶

If you fancy finding out a little more info beforehand, just drop the page a PM📩

🔖 GIANT thanks to Linzi Ellen from ‘Once Upon a Paperclip’ for designing these beautiful bookmarks for the GC Book Clubbers, organised by one of our lovely members!

Nature can’t “wait a wee minute.” Today, Northern Ireland is one of the most nature-depleted places in the world.

Nature is essential to all of our lives. It’s the air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat. It protects our communities from flooding and extreme heat, supports our health and wellbeing, and brings beauty and connection to our everyday lives.

It is not a nice-to-have. And it is not a blocker to growth.

Yet nature is in freefall. Wildlife continues to decline, water quality is failing, and too many people are increasingly cut off from the natural spaces that help communities thrive.

That’s why today we are launching a Nature=Future e-action, a campaign calling on the NI Government to act now to:

🌱 Restore nature
🦋 Protect and invest in wildlife
🏡 Build resilient futures for communities

We’re asking people across Northern Ireland to contact their MLAs and demand action. Please click the link below and show your support⬇️
