๐Ÿšถโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง Supporting Our Veterans

I would encourage people to support Northern Ireland Veterans Commissioner David Johnstone and his team as they undertake a 60-mile walk across Northern Ireland ahead of the 110th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme.

The walk is raising funds for two worthy causes โ€“ the Somme Association and Air Ambulance Northern Ireland. ๐Ÿ‘

The final leg takes place on 6th June, departing Castlerock at 11am and finishing at Portstewart War Memorial.

For more information or to register, visit www.nivco.co.uk.

Best wishes to David and everyone taking part in this fantastic fundraising effort.

As a new Council year begins, I would like to congratulate Councillor Dawn Huggins on her appointment as Mayor and Alderman Sandra Hunter on becoming Deputy Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council. I wish them both every success in the year ahead.

I would also like to take this opportunity to reflect on my own Council responsibilities. It has been a privilege to serve as Chair of the Environmental Services Committee over the past year, working alongside fellow councillors and council officers on issues that matter to residents right across the Borough.

Looking ahead, I am honoured to have been appointed Chair of the Planning Committee and Chair of the Community and Planning Strategic Partnership. Both roles carry significant responsibility and provide important opportunities to help shape the future development of our Borough and support local communities.

I remain committed to working hard on behalf of residents, businesses and community groups across our area, ensuring local voices are heard and that we continue to deliver positive outcomes for the people we represent.

Hereโ€™s to a productive and successful year ahead for Causeway Coast and Glens. ๐Ÿ‘

It was a pleasure to attend this eveningโ€™s Annual Council Meeting and to witness the appointment of Councillor Dawn Huggins as the new Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, alongside Alderman Sandra Hunter as Deputy Mayor.

This is a particularly significant occasion as it marks the first time that two women have simultaneously held the positions of Mayor and Deputy Mayor within our Borough.

Both Dawn and Sandra have a strong record of public service and community engagement, and I have no doubt they will represent the Borough with dedication, professionalism and pride in the year ahead.

I was delighted to have the opportunity to meet with them both this evening and wish them every success as they take on these important roles.

Hereโ€™s to a positive and productive year ahead for Causeway Coast and Glens. ๐Ÿ‘

From June, parents in Northern Ireland who have experienced the heartbreak of losing a baby before 24 weeks will be able to apply for a Baby Loss Certificate.

This is a compassionate and important step which recognises the profound loss experienced by so many families. While no certificate can ever remove the pain of losing a child, it will provide formal recognition of a precious life and offer comfort to many grieving parents.

The introduction of Baby Loss Certificates has been strongly supported by the DUP, recognising the importance of treating every loss with dignity, compassion and respect.

For many families, having their baby formally acknowledged will mean a great deal, and I welcome the introduction of this scheme.

More information on the application process will be available when the scheme opens this month. ๐Ÿ’œ
