Bury Trades Council is concerned that
70% of schools in Bury have less funding in real terms than in 2010/11.

We note that it would take £104 for every pupil in Bury to restore pupil funding to its level in 2010/11.

We call upon James Frith MP and Christian Wakeford MP to make representations in Parliament calling for an end to school cuts and the restoration of school funding to at least 2010/11 levels.

When Polish leader Bor-Komorowski launched the rising on 1 August 1944, he had 40,000 troops at his command, with only 2,500 armed.

Neither London nor the Polish Government in Exile could deliver anything remotely approaching what was needed to redress the mismatch between the courageous but misled Warsaw fighters and their fascist occupiers.

The battle-hardened German army, debased beyond all humanity from its war in the East, held the city securely. The garrison of 15,000 doubled in size to 30,000 as soon as the rising began.

On the first day of the fighting, 2,000 Poles died fighting. The N***s proceeded to murder at will, even slaughtering 1,300 staff and patients at Lazarus and Wola hospitals.

To blame the Red Army for failing to support the uprising is a baseless and shameful rewriting of history, yet a whole industry has grown up to 'prove' that the Soviets wilfully refused to commit enough troops to support the insurgency. Historians are anxious to portray the Soviets as having contempt for human life while condemning them for not wasting more. Stalingrad had provided a clear understanding of what it took to fight for cities, further evidenced when they entered Berlin.

The Red Army had just completed a 600km advance, without respite. Rokossovsky's troops were stretched between 18 and 100km from the city when the rising began.

As they approached, the Soviets discovered that the fascists had blown all the bridges crossing the Vistula.

Those who talk of Soviet betrayal need to explain how Soviet tanks could take a city they could not enter.

Red Army officers were parachuted into the city to liaise with the insurgents. Bor-Komorowski rejected every attempt at liaison.

The citizens of Warsaw paid heavily for Bor-Komorowski's precipitous action, and the fascists held the city long enough to mine it and reduce it to rubble.

It is a calumny to claim that the Soviets stood idly by and watched the suppression of the Warsaw uprising - an initiative, let us remember, which had been planned and executed with the specific intention of excluding the involvement of the Red Army.

Today marks the 73rd anniversary of the attack on the Moncada Barracks in Santiago de Cuba.

Young Cuban revolutionaries, led by Fidel Castro, attacked the Moncada Barracks in Santiago de Cuba.

While the attack itself failed, it laid the foundations for the Cuban Revolution.

The 26 July Movement, the vanguard of the Cuban Revolution, emerged victorious five and a half years later, liberating Cuba from the US-backed Batista dictatorship.
