RAF Honington HIVE

RAF Honington HIVE The HIVE is an information network available to all members of the service community

Royal Air Force Honington has a history of being a major flying base that dates back to the 1930s but which today is the RAF’s main centre of Force Protection. RAF Honington is a busy operational station, situated midway between the main towns of Bury St Edmunds to the South and Thetford in Norfolk to the North. The proximity of the main A14 road into East Anglia makes Honingtons’ rural location very accessible. The station (within the wire) provides a selection of amenities; a swimming pool and a well-equipped gymnasium, learning centre and a hairdresser. Outside the wire you will find the Families Bar, Stores, purpose built Childcare Centre, Service Church, Fish & Chip takeaway, Chinese takeaway, Hairdressers & Beauty and The Fox pub. Suffolk County Council also provide a mobile library service (contact the HIVE for up to date timetable). The Community Centre provides a focal point for the local community with various activities and sessions being hosted, it also accommodates the Soft Play, Coffee Shop and HIVE Information Office.

Armed Forces Children’s transitions between education systems – An Educators’ Toolkit
A new resource has been created for educators to support with planning transition for Service children: https://dcs.school/transition/ Families may also find the information helpful.
This toolkit has been developed specifically to help educators support armed forces children’s transitions between different education systems. Using this resource, educators can help children and young people from UK Armed Forces families experience positive transitions and thrive academically, socially and emotionally, wherever they move in the UK or overseas.
It was developed collaboratively by education practitioners and education policy professionals from across Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and England. This involved officials from Government Departments, local authority officers, schools and Service charities from across the UK.

Recruit For Spouses Wellbeing Programme: Free online places available.

There are a limited number of places available on a free wellbeing programme tailored to military spouses and partners. Held online and over three live sessions – you’ll need to be able to attend all three in order to secure your place:

28th September, 5th October, 12th October, 9:30–11:30am (UK time)

My name's Kat Cuthbert, and I am the new facilitator for the RFS Wellbeing Programme.
Earlier this year I had the opportunity to redevelop the programme, to make sure it is even more tailored to military spouses and partners than ever before.

As a psychotherapist and a military spouse, I passionately draw on lived experience to really understand the path we're living as spouses and partners in military families. This has been written across the new programme materials and content, so you are getting a completely refreshed programme.

I'm trauma specialist, and am qualified to hold this space for you. What we do together is psycho-educational, practical, and built entirely around this specific life of ours - military life.
Most spouses and partners I meet are running on go-go-go. Head up, no time to worry, always focusing on the next thing on the to-do list. It's how we cope with a life where so much is decided for us.

But pushing feelings down is like holding a beach ball underwater. The harder you push, the harder it springs back up. Rumination and isolation grow in the silence, and most of us don't have the words for what we're carrying, because we've never had the space to stop and ask.

That's what this programme is for. You'll learn to:
Regulate a nervous system that's been on high alert for years, with tools chosen for you, not a one-size-fits-all script
Name what you're feeling, from emotional isolation to the strain of deployments, so you can finally do something about it
Set boundaries and properly ask for support
Feel understood from the first session, live and online, alongside 19 others who already get it
One spouse from a previous cohort said: "This programme is brilliant in helping you deal with the coping methods and boundaries to protect yourself, and effectively communicate what you need and why."

Launch announcement for AFCAS 2027
The HQ Air Occupational Psychology Team would like to announce that the 2027 RAF AFCAS launches on 8th Sep 26 and runs until 1st Feb 27. Look out for your email invitation!

A Message from DCAS
“The Armed Forces Continuous Attitude Survey provides one of the most important opportunities for you to share your views, experiences, and priorities. Your feedback directly informs decisions at every level of the organisation and helps shape the policies, investment and actions that affect Service life. We have seen positive progress in several areas, but we know there is more to do.
I strongly encourage you to take part if invited. Your voice matters, your views are heard, and your contribution is essential to building a stronger Royal Air Force for the future”
AFCAS refreshed

The survey is now shorter, clearer and easier to complete, while continuing to focus on the issues that matter most to Service personnel.

Around 40% fewer questions

✅ Focused on fewer, higher-priority topics
✅ Duplicate content removed
✅ Single-Service content better aligned
✅ Clearer, more relevant questions
✅ New content reflecting today's Armed Forces
About the survey
AFCAS allows you to speak directly to the Air Force Main Board. You can tell them what's good and bad with Service life from your perspective. DCAS, as the People Champion, uses your feedback to develop and deliver an offer that reflects RAF requirements.
Your views are critical and the greater the number of survey respondents, the more evidence the RAF has to drive through the changes you want.
• AFCAS is sent to a randomly selected representative sample of personnel (to reduce survey burden).
• Those that complete it are representing the views of personnel across the RAF.
• AFCAS is 100% confidential.
• AFCAS is a way for you to share honest feedback.
Your Voice. Your Service. Your AFCAS.
Take part in the refreshed AFCAS and help shape the future of Service life.
