Wet morning? Why not complete our questionnaire in the September Steamer (or print off this photo). We want to know how people want us to make Sid’s Piece the best place for us all to enjoy some wild open space and to the benefit of our local wildlife. Please drop in completed forms to Stanton Post Office.

We’ve been busy! Our perimeter path at Sid’s Piece is being widened by hand to enable a small tractor to get through and make regular cuts during next year. So we’ve been hard at work cutting back scrubby growth. We hope the regular cuts will mean the paths stay open all year.

FREE blackberries! O.k. it’s not that big a deal since they’re currently all over the countryside. However, Sid’s are pure blackberry, no roadside pollutants, and not previously sprayed with agricultural chemicals. Just the very occasional drop of rain. Why not join our work party at Sid’s Piece tomorrow from 10am and pick some berries as a reward 😊

What a beautiful day for taking a walk around the now much larger ‘Sid’s Piece’. We’re seeking the views of local residents as to what they would like to see happen here in the next few years. Maybe an area for community and group events with a wildlife connection, possibly a covered shelter area, more seating and informative signage. There will be a questionnaire in the next Steamer. Sid’s is run entirely by volunteers who hold just one (but very successful) fundraising event each year. But we do hold practical work parties almost monthly, the last Sunday of each month. Do come along next Sunday 10am to find out more.

Thank-you to those who walk along our paths at the new larger Sid’s Piece. Along with our brilliant mowing team, it helps keep the grass from over-growing, and the paths worn. Keep on walking 🚶

A big thank-you to those who joined our work session yesterday. Mowing and trimming was a big success, but of course through summer, this will be needed more than once a month. So we’re thinking of having a small band of helpers who can help with this work on a rotation basis. Ideally we would like two volunteers per week for 1-2 hours. If we have ten volunteers then that would mean helping once every five weeks. We have the equipment! Please feel free to comment or ask any questions.
