What a busy summer it has been! Thank you to everyone who came along and engaged with us over the past few months. We were out and about at a variety of local events, including the Horse Spectacular, the stunning Rougham Sunflower Field, and the Junior Park Run, where stickers proved just as popular with the adults as they were with the children! We also organised several Street Meets across the area, providing a chance for residents to speak with us directly, ask questions, share concerns, and get to know their local policing team, all alongside our regular town centre patrols.

🚔 YOU SAID, WE DID 🚔

Here's an update on a small snippet of the work carried out by the Community Policing Team in and around Bury St Edmunds this week:

✅ 1 male arrested and charged in connection with multiple theft offences across the town. He has been charged to court. (37/53367/26)

✅ Following reports from a member of the public of vehicles drifting around a roundabout on Moreton Hall, officers attended and issued 6 Fixed Penalty Notices for a group breaching the public space protection order.

✅ An officer has been working hard to prepare an application for a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) in response to persistent anti-social behaviour affecting residents in Rougham.

✅ A male who ran from police on St Olaves Field and discarded a quantity of suspected cannabis was arrested. Enquiries remain ongoing. (37/52480/26)

🚔 Town Centre Team West: A Busy Few Days at Work...

While most people were enjoying the first week of September, our officers were busy dealing with everything from drug supply to driving offences and safeguarding investigations.

📅 Tuesday 1 September

✅ A female was arrested on suspicion of modern slavery offences following an investigation linked to the running of a brothel in Bury St Edmunds.

📅 Wednesday 2 September

📦 A parcel travelling a little too far from home was intercepted after arriving from California. Inside was a significant quantity of cannabis, which won't be reaching its intended destination.

🚗 Officers in Newmarket stopped a vehicle being driven without insurance. Further checks revealed the driver was also disqualified from driving.

Unfortunately for the driver, things didn't improve from there.

Whilst speaking with officers, the male attempted to dispose of suspected Class A drugs in a nearby bin. A roadside drugs wipe then returned a positive result for co***ne.

The male was arrested for: • Drug driving • Possession of Class A drugs • Driving without insurance • Driving whilst disqualified

The vehicle was also seized and taken off the road.

🌿 A further stop and search was carried out after officers witnessed what appeared to be a drug deal. A male was found in possession of cannabis.

📅 Thursday 3 September

🏠 Officers executed a court-issued warrant at an address in Stowmarket as part of an investigation into suspected drug supply. During the search, Class A drugs were located and seized.

👮 Across three days, officers have: ✅ Arrested suspects ✅ Seized drugs ✅ Removed an uninsured vehicle from the road ✅ Disrupted suspected drug supply ✅ Continued safeguarding vulnerable people

Not every package is worth signing for, not every driving ban is optional, and not every bin is a good hiding place.

🚔 Roads and Armed Policing Team Respond to Reports of Anti-Social Driving 🚔

This evening, following a report from a very concerned member of the public regarding vehicles being driven in an anti-social manner along Cullum Road and the Parkway area, officers from our Roads and Armed Policing Team (RAPT) attended and carried out enforcement activity.

As a result, five Traffic Offence Reports were issued in this area and Moreton Hall:
✅ 2 for speeding offences
✅ 4 for excessively loud exhausts

We understand the impact that anti-social driving can have on local residents and will continue to respond to reports and patrol identified areas.

We would like to remind all road users to drive carefully, responsibly and with consideration for others. Unsafe or anti-social driving will not be tolerated and action will be taken where offences are identified.

🚔 Patrols Conducted Following Reports of Anti-Social Vehicle Use in Parkway Car Park 🚔

Following reports from members of the public regarding anti-social use of motor vehicles in Parkway Car Park, Bury St Edmunds officers have been carrying out regular patrols in the area.

As a result of this proactive activity, two drivers have recently been issued with Fixed Penalty Notices for breaching the Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) that covers the location. In addition, both drivers were issued with Section 59 warnings under the Police Reform Act 2002.

A Section 59 warning can be issued when a vehicle is being used in a manner that causes alarm, distress or annoyance to members of the public, or is being driven carelessly or inconsiderately. If a driver or vehicle that has been issued with a warning is involved in a further incident within 12 months, police have the power to seize the vehicle.

We would like to remind motorists that the PSPO is in place to help prevent anti-social behaviour and ensure public spaces remain safe and enjoyable for everyone.

Appeal after a woman, walking her dog in Hardwick Park gardens in Bury St Edmunds on Thu 24 Aug at about 910am, was attacked by another dog causing an injury to her arm. The offending dog was described as a labrador and was being walked by a male described as in his 50s and was with a woman also in her 50s.
