10 Ways to Be an Ally This Pride Month 🌈

At Fevaca, we're committed to creating environments where every young person feels safe, respected, and valued for who they are.

Here are 10 simple ways to support LGBTQ+ young people in our children's homes and supported accommodation services:

- Listen without judgment

- Use their chosen name and pronouns

- Keep learning about LGBTQ+ experiences

- Challenge discrimination when you see it

- Celebrate diversity and inclusion

- Create safe, welcoming spaces

- Respect privacy and confidentiality

- Show visible signs of support

- Advocate for their rights and needs

- Be supportive all year round!

Small actions can make a lasting difference. This Pride Month, and every month, let's continue building spaces where young people feel seen, heard, and empowered to be themselves.

💜 Happy Pride Month from everyone at Fevaca.

📢 SPEAKER ANNOUNCEMENT 📢

We couldn’t keep it to ourselves any longer! We are thrilled to announce the first of our incredible speakers for the 2026 Fevaca Conference on “The Future of Residential Childcare in the UK”.

We are delighted to welcome back Jonathan Stanley , who will be joining us again this year to explore how terms frequently used interchangeably by providers, social workers, and commissioners are, in fact, distinct and why that distinction matters.

Clarity in language is essential, with direct implications for the primary task, organisational culture, and the role and function set out in the Statement of Purpose. It also impacts matching and referral processes. Jonathan’s session will address the key question: How do we clarify what we do, and why is it important?

Jonathan brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise, and we are very much looking forward to him sharing his insights at this year’s conference.

🧠✨ Mental Health Awareness Bingo! ✨🧠

How well are you really taking care of your mental health?

Our Fevaca Mental Health Bingo is a simple, engaging way to reflect on the habits, boundaries, and small daily actions that support wellbeing. We even made sure to serve them up with some brain foods!

From staying hydrated and taking breaks to checking in with yourself and others, every square is a reminder that mental health care doesn’t have to be complicated, it starts with the little things.

How many squares can you tick off?

What healthy habits do you want to build more consistently?

Which self-care practices make the biggest difference for you?

This is a great activity to:
🌱 Start conversations about wellbeing
🤝 Encourage team connection and support
💬 Reduce stigma around mental health
💡 Inspire healthier daily routines

Share it with your teams, colleagues, friends, and family; then let us know what you learned about your own wellbeing habits!

Because supporting mental health is not just for awareness days, it’s something we can practice every day.

5 Mental Health Tips for Social Workers!

1️⃣ Take Mini Breaks
Even 5 minutes to breathe, stretch, or walk can help you reset between cases.

2️⃣ Set Boundaries
Protect your time and energy. Lunch breaks and a clear finish time are non-negotiable.

3️⃣ Reflect in Supervision
Use supervision to talk about your emotional load, not just cases.

4️⃣ Spot Stress Early
Watch for irritability, fatigue, or feeling detached. Early action prevents burnout.

5️⃣ Lean on Colleagues
Peer support matters. Share, laugh, and check in. You’re not alone.

Bonus Tip, ask your team: “What helps you stay well while doing tough work?”
