Despite the windy conditions we've had a good but brief view of a Common Tern passing through. A brief visit from the Spoonbills on the main scrape along with good of the Marsh Harrier with young and Little-Ringed Plover.

Then some Spotted Redshank already on their back from their breeding sites, showing from Border Hide.

Started as a wet day but warmed up this afternoon with an increase of insect life and the birds came out to feed. There was a flock of 500 Knots in formation in front of the Visitor Centre. An immature Spoonbill flew through on the Scrape and the Marsh Harrier passed food to its fledglings.

The highlight today was a charming view of the parent Reed Warblers feeding it's young in the nest in the reed bed near the side of the Visitor centre.

📣Nature needs your help.

We are raising funds to buy a thermal imaging drone to help us find nests, eggs, and hidden chicks, allowing us to track breeding numbers and assess how well they are doing with raising their young.

The drone will cause less disturbance and help assess the breeding success of sensitive species like Avocets, Marsh Harrier, Great Egret, Spoonbills and Little Terns at Point of Ayr.

Please help us by sharing this link. A massive thank you to those who have already donated on the page below:

Your support is vital in helping us protect these important species.

A busy day at Burton Mere Wetlands. As part of RSPB Volunteer Week we've been recruiting prospective new reserve volunteers, so a big thankyou to all who came and everyone who helped organise the event.

Highlights from the reserve today included 100 Bar-Tailed Godwits, over 300 Knot at Border Hide, Little Ringed Plover, Cattle Egret as well as a Marsh Harrier pair and their fledglings.

Visitors were excited to see both a flash of a Kingfisher plus several sightings of Scarlet Tiger moths and Cinnabar moths. Different species of orchids continued to prove popular across the reserve including Bee Orchid(in front of Visitor Centre window), Marsh Orchids and Broad-Leafed Helleborine(on the path near Bunker Hide).

Explore the amazing wildlife at Burton Mere Wetlands on a guided walk this Thursday! 🥾🌼🦋

Every month we host a wildlife wander, a 2.5 hours walk around the reserve with our knowledgeable and friendly volunteer guide. These small groups offer you a perfect opportunity to ask lots of questions and you'll see plenty of wildlife as the season shifts from spring into summer including fluffy Avocet chicks and colourful Scarlet tiger moths.
