Excitement is brewing with England’s first World Cup fixture tonight.

But incidents of domestic abuse increase by 38% if England loses a match, and sometimes people suffer in silence.

It doesn’t have to be like that.

Do you suspect someone of being a victim of domestic abuse?

There are some signs you can look out for: 👇
• Unexplained injuries
• Personality changes, like low self-esteem in someone who was always confident
• Overly worried about pleasing their partner
• Wearing clothes that don’t fit the season, like long sleeves in summer, which may be covering injuries

If you believe there is an immediate risk of harm to you or someone you know, or it is an emergency, you should always call 999.

If you are worried that a friend, neighbour or loved one is a victim of domestic abuse, then you can call the National Domestic Abuse Helpline for free and confidential advice, 24 hours a day on 0808 2000 247.

You can also find help in your local area on our dedicated Domestic Abuse support webpage: https://www.trentanddove.org/da

Today marks the start of Loneliness Awareness Week 2026, which is dedicated to raising awareness of loneliness by creating conversation and communication.

One of our important roles is to tackle social isolation and help our customers and wider communities to thrive.

According to figures released by The Marmalade Trust:

• The number of over-50s experiencing loneliness is set to reach two million by 2025/6. This compares to around 1.4 million in 2016/7 – a 49% increase in 10 years.

• Half a million older people go at least five or six days a week without seeing or speaking to anyone at all.

• Two-fifths of all older people (about 3.9 million) say the television is their main company.

That is why our Independent Living schemes are vital to our customers’ health and wellbeing. The communal lounges and regular activities provide an opportunity for older residents to socialise.

Specifically for our Over 55 community, we have four schemes for those who require a home better suited to their lifestyle or mobility.

Elsewhere, our Community Cafes, our Community Gardens, pop-up cafes, and coffee mornings provide a welcome place for everyone to meet and talk over a nice cuppa.

Improving the energy efficiency of our homes is a key priority, helping to keep them warm and safe and could lower household energy bills. ♻️

Through our ongoing investment programme, we have identified 279 homes with Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) ratings below C and developed plans to improve their energy performance.

With the support of an £800,000 grant from the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF), we have already completed upgrades to 78 homes.

Improvements included 👇
• cavity wall insulation,
• new windows and doors,
• loft insulation,
• enhanced ventilation measures

These works mean we are already a quarter of the way through our programme to bring more homes up to a higher energy efficiency standard.

Many homes benefiting from these improvements are bungalows and houses in rural locations that are not connected to the main gas grid.

We regularly review the energy performance of our homes and will contact customers directly if their home has an EPC rating below C, so we can explore opportunities for future improvements.

We’re making it easier for you to find and understand information about your home and services.

From October 2026, new national requirements – known as STAIRs (Social Tenants’ Access to Information) – will help make housing services more transparent and accessible.

At Trent & Dove, we’re building on what we already share to ensure information is clear, easy to find and simple to use.

Key dates:

· From 1 October 2026 – more information will be available online

· From 1 April 2027 – you’ll be able to formally request specific information

This is about helping you better understand what we do, how decisions are made, and how we’re performing for you.

Find out more about STAIRs and what it means for you: https://www.trentanddove.org/news/new-legislation-to-make-information-clearer-and-easier-to-access-1713

With the World Cup just around the corner, it is an exciting time for football fans, but for others, it can mean home becomes unsafe.

Research from the National Centre for Domestic Violence reveals that domestic abuse incidents increase by 26% when the England team plays, 38% if they lose, and 11% the day after, regardless of the outcome.

Please don’t suffer in silence. There are ways to get help: 👇

• If you are at immediate risk of violence, you should always call 999. If you cannot speak while on the phone, dial 999, wait until it connects and press 55.

• Call the National Domestic Abuse Helpline for free and confidential advice, 24 hours a day on 0808 2000 247.

As we mark the end of Volunteers' Week, we treated our lovely volunteers to a meal at The Mulberry cafe at Burton and South Derbyshire College.

Our volunteers are a vital part of Trent & Dove, providing support (and delicious meals!) across our cafes and coffee mornings. They also get green-fingered in our community gardens and support us at lots of events.

Our volunteers are all ages. Some benefit from the social aspect of volunteering, others improve their English. And others just love to give back to the community!
Thank you to all our volunteers!

Thank you to our customers who joined our Strength in Voices panel. This is a collection of 100+ customers who offer feedback on a variety of changes we would like to make. 👍

During the recruitment process, we engaged a group of customers for our first successful project. They were invited to choose the new colours for our replacement kitchens, where required, as part of our new contract.

Customers reviewed four options, and there was a lively discussion about which would work best.

We also worked with ESBC’s Housing Adaptations Technical Officer regarding adaptations and considerations for having an "Autism Friendly" option. After sharing our research and following feedback from the panel, we will incorporate this into our kitchens.

We are already actioning the panel's feedback by installing the latest kitchens in the new colours, and we will share soon!

We always welcome customer feedback to help improve our services. If you would like further details about Strength in Voices, please visit: https://www.trentanddove.org/your-voice

As part of Volunteers’ Week this week, we are celebrating our fabulous volunteers who are a vital part of our community offering. 🎉

Whether you spot them serving meals in our Warm Spaces Cafes, becoming green-fingered in our Community Gardens, or simply providing a friendly ear at our coffee mornings, our volunteers ensure our community is supported.

Why become a volunteer: ❓👇

- To get out and meet people
- To aid recovery
- To develop new skills (it looks great on the CV!)
- Gain qualifications
- A stop-gap in between jobs
- To improve your language skills
- Because you want to!

Please give a shout-out to volunteers like Kelly, Tarnyia, and Svitlana, who feature in our article, for highlighting what being a hero looks like.

Read more about them here, where you will find more information about our volunteering opportunities: https://www.trentanddove.org/news/i-love-giving-back-to-the-community-celebrating-our-volunteers-1703
