DON’T FORGET TOMORROW……
SAVE THE COPPERWORKS PUBLIC MEETING!

We are forming a group of interested people in order to save the Copperworks school. The aim of the meeting is to gain public support and the aim of the group will be to acquire grants to help refurbish the building. Committed volunteers are needed to join the group and help make this happen.

If anyone is interested in this project please attend a meeting tomorrow, THURSDAY 15th FEBRUARY at the SENIOR CITIZENS HALL, BURRY PORT. Meeting will start at 6.30pm

SAVE THE COPPERWORKS

Unfortunately the lion’s share of the Copperworks site has been sold, ie the main part of the school and playing field. However the smaller Copperworks building which was used by the Town Band has been vacated .This is an asset the Town Council own but cannot afford to maintain and refurbish

The future of the Copperworks (Band Room ) is in the balance. The Heritage society is keen to preserve this site.
However support and commitment is needed from the Historical society to ensure grant funding and a future for the building

If you want to support the preservation of this building and part of our heritage please do the following
Write to Mr Huw Thomas Town Clerk
or email [email protected]
expressing your support to keep this asset

You can also show your support by attending the Facilities meeting at 6 pm in the Senior Citizens Hall on February 7th

Remember your voice needs to be heard

The Copperworks building
This is an asset which is worthy of investment because
It is an iconic WORKS SCHOOL built by the Coppermasters Mason and Elkington in 1855
Based in the Bacce.... a neglected and overlooked part of our town

Only 10 minutes walk from the town centre and near Parcy Tywyn school

Bacce is in need of regeneration and needs to be connected to the town
Part of our HISTORIC IDENTITY and CULTURAL HERITAGE

Worthy of preservation as a link to our industrial past
An educational tool....... support the national curriculum which emphasises knowledge of the local area

POTENTIAL
Multi purpose centre
Networking centre
Serving the needs of the community of the neighbourhood bringing people together
A place for social interaction
Space for networking, provide information, space for advice, meetings and activities.

IS THERE A NEED?
YES
EVIDENCE... a door to door and an on-line survey affirmed that residents of the Bacce wanted a multi purpose centre.
Welcomed the preservation of the building.
It would bring people together.
IT would bring much desired services closer to this neighbourhood who feel overlooked, out on a limb.
Part of the building could be a cultural base.
Part could house a coffee and eatery ,,,,,,,,,great example of this idea ....Bishop’s Palace Carmarthen has a designated eatery and coffee section.
A petition with 300 Signatures also support the retention of the Copperworks.

Join the campaign if you want to save the building
Many thanks
Mary Wenman.

If someone has any old photos from the school and would be prepared to scan and send them on to us on here it would be greatly appreciated as we are trying to build a portfolio of as much visual imagery as possible.
