BPRCVS is a charity that relies on funding and the kindness and support of others. The BPRCVS Health and Wellbeing for Children and Families Team support children and young people in a variety of different ways:
We work with young people aged 8-18 and support them in finding the appropriate groups, support and activities by carrying out an initial assessment with them. The initial assessment will
help to develop and an action plan or need, activities and interests. The Team and our wonderful volunteers will then support the young person to attend the first session or two of groups and activities they choose to explore. We provide some group activities ourselves, which we vary according to the different needs of the children and young people we support. Our aim is to empower children and young people, build confidence, learn new and different skills, promote wellbeing and make new friends all whilst having fun. What do we do?
• Following a referral we will meet with the parent(s)/ carer(s) for some background on the young person and what support they think might be helpful.
• We then meet with the young person, usually in school (depending on their circumstances) and carry out an initial assessment: what they feel they need and what would make them happy.
• Research activities, groups and support for each individual child.
• With the information gathered from parent(s)/carer(s) and the young person we then create individual action plans which include ideas and suggestions that the young person might be happy to engage in.
• With consent, refer to other services as appropriate, such as mental health and wellbeing support.
• Provide some group activities at various points in the year.
• Keep cases open for up to 16 weeks and group activities provided by BPRCVS can be accessed for up to 18 months.
• Work with other services to best support children and young people to keep them safe. What do we not do?
• We are not an emergency service.
• We are not mental health workers, but we can make referral for mental health support.
• We cannot provided door to door pick up and drop off - we request that children are dropped off and picked up at pick up points by an adult unless otherwise agreed with a Team member.
• We do not push children to join in activities, we understand that meeting new people can be daunting and the first step is attending the activity. We will encourage children to join in with the support of the Team and our volunteers. What do we expect from people who use our service?
• To contact the Team by the deadline provided if the young person wishes to attend a group activity organised by the Team.
• To be on time if attending activities and for an adult to drop off and collect from the pickup points that have been arranged.
• To be polite and respectful of others and property.
• To keep us up to date with changes such as phone numbers, addresses and schools.
• To be respectful of the service being provided. Family, schools, professionals, young people themselves, etc.
• We do occasionally have a waiting list and will advise the referrer of the waiting time.
