🎉CADET OF THE MONTH🎉

Congratulations to the recipient of the monthly award 🗓️ - Cdt Whitehead.

Cdt Whitehead was chosen for the Cadet of the Month award for May, due to her consistent positive attitude at our parade nights whilst we were parading at an alternative venue 🏫, and also for the improvement made to her standard of uniform.

Keep up the good work 👏

🎉New air cadets incoming🎉

What an incredible turnout at the 352 (Burnley) Air Cadets Open Night! ✈️

We were delighted to welcome so many young people and their families to learn more about the exciting opportunities available with the RAF Air Cadets.

Our newest recruits are about to begin an amazing journey. Once they have completed their basic training, they will progress through their cadet experience as a cohort, taking part in activities such as flying, shooting, adventure training, leadership development, and much more.

Thank you to everyone who attended and showed an interest in joining our squadron. We look forward to welcoming our new cadets and watching them develop new skills, make lifelong friendships, and create unforgettable memories.

As we prepare to return to our squadron building tomorrow for our open night recruitment event, we want to take a moment to express our sincere thanks to the Sea Cadets Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale for their incredible hospitality over the past three months.

Since the end of February, they have generously welcomed us into their unit, providing us with a place to continue our training and activities whilst our own building was unavailable due to electrical works. Their support has ensured that we were able to remain open twice a week, maintain our programme, and continue delivering opportunities for our cadets.

Without their assistance, many of the achievements highlighted in this post simply would not have been possible. From classifications and badges to promotions and leadership qualifications, our cadets have continued to thrive thanks in no small part to the support we received.

On behalf of all the staff, volunteers, parents and cadets of 352 (Burnley) Squadron, thank you to everyone at the Sea Cadets for your kindness, cooperation and friendship. We are extremely grateful for everything you have done for us and look forward to continuing the strong relationship between our units in the future.

Congratulations to Wg Cdr Steve Fry KVRM RD VR DL AFNI.

Speaking on their appointment:

“I’m hugely excited to build on the great work of Gp Capt Leeming and the team. It will be incredible to work alongside the permanent staff and fantastic adult volunteers who give so much of themselves for the nearly 10,000 cadets across the region. I can’t wait to get started and meet you all - hopefully at some camps this summer."

With exam season in full swing for many of our cadets, our “Popcorn & Pillow” film night last night was a great success!🍿📚✨

Cadets turned up in their comfiest pyjamas, plenty of snacks, and had lots of laughs throughout the evening. We even had a prize for the best PJs which was won by Corporal Cartmell and yes, the staff got involved too (especially our CI Newman)! 😄

With revision, exams, and busy schedules, it’s important to take time to relax and unwind, and last night was the perfect chance for everyone to switch off and enjoy spending time together as a squadron.

A brilliant evening all round - good luck to all our cadets sitting exams at the moment! 👏

Last night we welcomed back the team from Assystem UK for the second of their two STEM sessions: the eagerly anticipated test phase.

For anyone who missed last week's post, cadets where challenged to design, build and present a device capable of protecting an egg from cracking when dropped from increasing heights between 0.5m and 2.5m. Just like real world bids or tender processes, each proposal was reviewed and scored against the weighting criteria:

- Design/Plan Proposal - 15%
- Build Quality - 10%
- Highest drop without breaking - 40%
- Price - 25%
- Presentation - 10%

Last week the cadets designed and created an array of creative engineering solutions, whilst confidently presenting and explaining their designs. This week was time to put the designs to the test.

All teams successfully passed the first two rounds at 0.5m and 1.0m, including Assystem's own design. As the height increased, the challenge became tougher and the egg protectors where pushed to their limits until only two remained: Assystem and Team 1. We even went well beyond the 2.5m limit and neither design failed. In the end the winner had to be decided on by the weighted design criteria and it was incredibly close.

Team 1 of our own cadets narrowly beat Assystem by 1% and where crowned the winning team - and yes, it was a truly eggciting competition!

Final Results:

Team 1: 76.5%
Assystem: 75.5%
Team 3: 65%
Team 4: 60%
Team 5: 58.5%

Once again thank you to Jonathan Brown, Aiden Chatterton, James Ditchfield and Tom Goulding who captured the cadets imaginations over two eggcellent evenings.

🥳CONGRATULATIONS🥳

Well done to this amazing group of 1️⃣1️⃣ cadets who have successfully gained their blue leadership badges 🔵

This training is an introduction to the principles of leadership and covers how to use SMEAC (Situation, Mission, Ex*****on, Any Questions, Check Understanding) to brief a group of cadets, and then put this into practice by successfully leading 2️⃣ approved leadership exercises.

Look out for our new leaders who can now move on to gain their bronze leadership badge.

New Stripes 🦓

A huge congratulations to Cadet Hall, Cadet Hulme and Cadet Cartmell (L-R) on their promotion to the rank of Corporal this evening! 👏

Following a successful interview process, all three have earned their place within the squadron NCO team. As recent graduates of the new Wing JNCO Course, they have already shown fantastic commitment, leadership and determination — making these promotions thoroughly deserved.

Their hard work and dedication to the squadron has been clear to see, and we are excited to watch them take on the challenges and responsibilities that come with their new rank.

Well done Corporals Hall, Hulme and Cartmell 🎉
