Rossendale & Pendle Mountain Rescue Team

Rossendale & Pendle Mountain Rescue Team Run entirely by highly trained volunteers, we are funded by donations from the public - 24/7, 365.

Our operational patch takes in a variety of terrain – from peaty moorlands, heathered slopes, crags and quarries to field systems, wooded areas, semi–rural farmland and town parks. Not to mention the urban and industrial landscape we are frequently called to work in. Our border traces a line from Whitefield in the south, heading north east along the M62 beyond Rochdale and Littleborough, before me

andering north along the edge of the Pennines towards Earby and the A59. Here it takes a turn south westwards, following the path of the River Ribble past Barnoldswick and Clitheroe until, just short of Preston, it turns south and east, back towards Blackburn, skirting north of Darwen and Bolton and west of Bury, to run parallel to the M66 back down to junction 17 of the M62. Along the way, we take Bacup, Burnley, Nelson and Colne, Haslingden, Rawtenstall and Water. Not to mention the beautiful Pendle Hill with its picturesque neighbouring villages of Whalley, Sabden and Newchurch.

On Monday evening, team members were at Lee Mill Quarry in Bacup providing rescue cover for the Midweek Mountain Bike Madness event.

With challenging terrain and fast riding conditions, events like these always benefit from having experienced rescue personnel on standby should anything go wrong. Thankfully, the evening passed without any major incidents, allowing riders to enjoy a great evening of racing in the quarry.

It was another good opportunity for the team to support local outdoor events and work alongside the wider community that uses the hills and trails across the area.

Thank you to the organisers for having us, and well done to everyone who took part.

Saturday saw some team members spending the day at the fantastic Rocky Stock Festival at Rawtenstall Cricket Club, where we were out with a fundraising stall supporting a brilliant community event.

It was great to see so many people attending throughout the day, with some fantastic live bands creating a brilliant atmosphere from start to finish. Thank you to everyone who stopped by to chat, support the team and contribute to our fundraising efforts.

On Sunday, team members were back out again, this time at Ranger Weekend in Thompson Park, Burnley, with another fundraising stall.

The event brought together plenty of outdoor enthusiasts, families and local organisations, giving us another great opportunity to meet members of the community, talk about what the team does and raise vital funds that help keep us operational.

A big thank you to the organisers of both events for having us, and to everyone who came over to support the team across the weekend.

On Friday, the team welcomed Billy and his students for a visit to our base as part of an ongoing relationship that has developed over a number of years.

In the past, team members have helped guide groups from Nottinghamshire around the Yorkshire Three Peaks, helping introduce young people to the outdoors and the opportunities that come with it.

This visit was all about continuing that experience, giving students from challenging backgrounds the chance to explore somewhere different, build confidence and experience the outdoors in a way many of them otherwise may never have the opportunity to.

The group also spent time out around Pendle on the team buggies, which certainly proved popular. It was great to see everyone getting involved, asking questions and enjoying the day.

A big thank you to everyone who gave up their time to support the visit.

🚨🚨🚨 CALLOUT #19 🚨🚨🚨

On Sunday morning (10:19 10/5/26) whilst team members were at two concurrent events, we were contacted by the North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust (NWAS) to assist with an incident near Bull Hill, Helmshore.

A walker had reportedly lost consciousness on the hillside, so team members were deployed immediately and began making their way to the location. While en route, NWAS updated us to say the informant had called back — they were feeling better and planned to make their own way off the hill.

Our callout coordinator made direct contact and agreed that team members would still continue to meet them at a nearby farm to check the casualty over and ensure they were off the hill safely.

The team met a well prepared group of walkers from Rochdale. Our medics assessed the casualty before transporting them back to their vehicles to continue their day safely.

A good outcome and a reminder that even well prepared days out can take an unexpected turn.

Starting the week with a huge shout‑out to 🐝Beebug Ltd🐝 for their incredible support.

Our old projector has served the team for more than a decade, but over the last year it’s been struggling — especially whenever the heater was on. It was definitely time for an upgrade.

While one of our team members was visiting family down south, Beebug stepped in with perfect timing. They had an interactive screen that was no longer needed for its original purpose and generously donated it to us free of charge to replace our ageing setup.

We think you’ll agree — it’s the bee’s knees. 🐝
We’re genuinely grateful for the support. Thank you, Beebug.

What a weekend!
We had sunshine, rain, wind — and everything in between — but the team were out in full force across three events, plus a Sunday morning callout (more on that soon).

On Saturday we joined the action at Pendle Ski Slope, before heading over to Rossendale Ski for day two on Sunday. And while that was happening, other team members were busy supporting the Rossendale Triathlon.

It was brilliant to see so many people out and about (and making the most of the slightly kinder weather on Sunday).
A huge thank you to everyone who stopped to chat, asked questions, or just said hello — your support keeps us going.
