A busy drill night for Burnham! 🚨

We attended 3 incidents whilst still managing to fit in some valuable training on CAFS and fog spikes.

Here is our 2nd pump mobilising to a fire just outside of Bridgwater. 🚒

We’re deeply saddened by the tragic deaths of seven children and two adults, in both inland and coastal waters, over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Our Chief Fire Officer, Gavin Ellis, spoke on BBC 5 Live this morning about the dangers of inland water, where accidental drowning deaths have now been higher than coastal incidents for the seventh year in a row.

Although rivers, lakes and reservoirs may look calm and inviting in the hot weather, hidden currents and cold water shock can quickly become life-threatening. Water temperatures are currently only around 14–16°C, which can cause an involuntary gasp response and lead to drowning.

Please avoid swimming in inland waterways and encourage others to do the same.

If you unexpectedly enter the water, remember to float:

• Tilt your head back with ears submerged
• Breathe normally
• Move your hands to stay afloat
• Spread your arms and legs for stability

Floating can save your life.

This morning crews from Burnham, Bridgwater and Cheddar were alerted to a fire in an industrial unit near the motorway. 🔥

Upon Burnham’s arrival, the premises were confirmed to be well alight and assistance was sent from Taunton, Glastonbury, Street, Martock and Weston. 🚒

Although the main property suffered complete fire damage, firefighters made good progress and prevented the adjacent businesses from being effected beyond smoke damage.

A first for many of us on the fire ground yesterday afternoon! 🚨

After a small fire in an electrical unit, assistance from Weston-super-Mare Firefighters was requested to apply PV Stop to the solar panels of a domestic property.

The turntable ladder was utilised for the application. 🚒

PV Stop is a specialist firefighting liquid used on solar panels. It is sprayed onto the panels where it forms a dark coating, blocking sunlight from reaching the cells and helping reduce the electricity they generate. ☀️

This is a relatively new tool for us that many haven’t seen in action. It was interesting to see it at work!

Thankyou all for your incredible patience as crews from Burnham, Bridgwater and Taunton have worked with other agencies to resolve this morning’s incident on the M5.

Fortunately, the only injuries sustained were minor.

There was a "significant diesel spillage" after a crash on the M5.
