Day 4 of National Cadets Week and the focus today is Saving Lives.
First Aid is a vital skill and our cadets and volunteers have used these skills both within the organisation and in the community; most recently assisting an elderly gentleman who was struck by a car.
Basic first aid training is mandatory for all cadets. As with all our training, the syllabus is progressive and is summarised below:
• Blue Badge (Essential First Aid): A 2-to-3-hour introductory course covering unconscious casualties, recovery positions, basic CPR, choking, and serious bleeding.
• Bronze Badge (Youth First Aid): A 12-hour comprehensive weekend course (requiring the Blue level) covering expanded topics like asthma, fractures, burns, anaphylaxis, and shock. This also includes casualty management.
• Silver Badge (Activity First Aid): A 16-hour course for senior cadets and mandatory for Civilian Adult Volunteer Staff (CFAVs).
• Gold Badge (Instructor First Aid): Specialist instructor and assessor training (such as 8-day residential courses or certified staff training).
Sergeant Wright, a volunteer at 2531DF, is a London Ambulance Service EMT by day and his experience and enthusiasm ensures our cadets’ training should prepare them to use these skills when necessary.
Our recruitment window is open.
We parade Monday and Thursday nights from 19:10 to 21:30 at the Burnham Baptist Church (opposite the Polash restaurant). Please feel free to drop by and find out more!
