Parish Council Awards £2,000 Grant to Support Slice of Life Project

The Parish Council is delighted to announce the award of a £2,000 grant to the Slice of Life project, helping to secure its future at a crucial time.

Slice of Life has proved to be a highly successful and valued project within the community, making a real difference to the lives of local young people. The Council is keen to ensure that this important work can continue and remain sustainable in the long term.

This funding has been awarded in recognition of the project’s incredible impact and in response to the gradual withdrawal of funding from Bradford Council. The Parish Council is pleased to be able to step in with support to help provide greater financial security as the project adapts to these changes.

Councillors expressed their strong support for Slice of Life and their commitment to backing initiatives that strengthen the community and support local wellbeing. The Council wishes the project continued success and looks forward to seeing its positive impact continue in the years ahead.

WHARFEDALE GREENWAY.
This is a proposal to link Pool, Otley, Menston, Guiseley and Ilkley with a footpath/cycle route mostly following the old railway line.
It is sponsored by the local Town and Parish Councils along with the very active Friends Group
It's a long term project but below are details of the latest proposed works.

Notification of short-term noise disturbance
Walk Wheel Cycle Trust are working with Leeds City Council and the City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council to explore the feasibility of reinstating two bridges above the A65 and A6038 as part of any future Wharfedale Greenway.
The drilling of four boreholes is planned between Monday 20th and Friday 24th, to check the condition of the former bridge abutments. Works will proceed from west to east. This is early investigative works and there are no current plans to reinstate the bridges. The work will inform the feasibility assessment and estimates for the cost of any future bridges.
It is planned that setup, drilling and making good will be completed at one abutment per day. There may be some noise disturbance to those nearby between the hours of 0830 and 1630 when works are taking place.

The Parish Council is deeply saddened by the tragic incident that occurred on Sunday, 1 March. Our thoughts and heartfelt sympathies are with the victim’s family and all those affected by this devastating event.

We recognise that this incident will understandably cause concern within our community. The Parish Council wishes to reassure residents that West Yorkshire Police have deployed all necessary resources and continue to conduct extensive enquiries in the area. We are grateful for their swift and professional response.

We are also proud that Burley residents – including some who were taking part in a community litter pick – responded quickly and provided help until the emergency services arrived. Their actions exemplify the strength and compassion of our community at a time of great distress.

Anyone with any information is urged to contact the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team on 101, use the West Yorkshire Police Live Chat, or report anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
